Re: Dumbest Fighter Of All-Time

Dumb as a fighter or just dumb as a person? There is a difference.
Not even close if you've ever seen him fight. People take more punishment in one fight than he did in his entire career. Besides, he perfected the art of making a fair living each year to block punches for a few rounds.BarryWashington wrote:Reggie Strickland.
He was perfectly cut out to be the opponent if I've ever seen one. With as many fights as he would take in a years time, I'm sure he made a good chunk of change on this little side job of his called boxing (not including being a matchmaker). Believe me, he didn't get hit a lot. Maybe in the beginning but over time he perfected his craft well enough to keep very good fighters from getting through his guard.BarryWashington wrote:I personally think he's dumb for wasting so many years of his life by pursuing something that wasn't cut out for him.

McNeeley fighting Tyson was nothing more than Don King showing gratitude to the support from the Special Needs Trust.

It was a farce of a fight. What makes it dumb on McNeeley's part? Was there another avenue in life where he was going to make a million dollars for 2 minutes? I'd fight either Klitschko tomorrow for less than that and I haven't even sparred in 6 years.
I would put a million dollars on the line that if McNeeely were to take an IQ test not only would he probably break his pencil in his half due to the frustration he would feel taking it, he also would not reach over 60 pts.

He was no dummy either in person. Just a regular guy. I think he played up the Gee whiz stuff for laughs.
There have been fighters that aint real bright over the years.
In my opinion, it isnt really the guys who are the opponents, journeymen, etc.
Some of the geniuses who have pissed away careers with criminal activity would be more the norm I think.

I read this article about Michael Spinks. He was asked why he didn't continue fighting after his loss to Tyson. He was still young and had gas in the tank. He said he had made more money than he could have ever dreamed of and was able to provide a nice life for him and his family. He marveled at the opportunity his skill had created for him and that was enough. That's uncommon wisdom.
Ali was certainly lacking in wisdom to have fought so long and so past his prime. But that lack of wisdom is mitigated by the fact that he had nine children and an entourage to support. Where else was he going to get $5 million for a night's work?yancey wrote:ThatOne wrote:How about smart boxers?

So maybe a certain iconic figure that hung around far too long and paid dearly for it didn't really possess such wisdom, right?
Thats a better thread. Dumb as a fighter. Example, Golota leading a fight and throwing the blows he did.Ambling Alp wrote:Dumb as a fighter or just dumb as a person? There is a difference.
Wow. And no, you can't determine someone's IQ by the look on their face.BarryWashington wrote:And really? Facial expressions can't determine someone's intelligence? So you're telling me when you see someone that suffers from Down Syndrome that you can't immediately tell by looking at their face that they have it?
I've never seen an expression as ignorant as this post.BarryWashington wrote:Peter McNeeley during a press conference for his future fight against Mike Tyson:SaadOffTheDeck wrote:BarryWashington wrote: It's the way McNeeley carried himself and what he did outside of the ring. Edit: I don't want to smash on these guys. I was going to go on about leon Spinks. But that's just wrong, LOL at facial expressions making someone an idiot.
You know what is really dumb? This thread
"Keep laughing, keep laughing. Real funny, haha? If any one of you doesn't respect me, or what I'm doing or what I've been doing for the last three months since it was been announced, going against a guy like this, you have a big dump in your pants."
And really? Facial expressions can't determine someone's intelligence? So you're telling me when you see someone that suffers from Down Syndrome that you can't immediately tell by looking at their face that they have it?
I don't care about PC, I just have no idea what a genetic disorder has to do with boxers that make certain facial expressions.BarryWashington wrote:Why are you saying "wow"? Was that not PC enough for you? I never said that facial expressions ALWAYS determine one's intelligence, I'm saying that it can. And in an extreme case someone that suffers from Down Syndrome would be an example of being able to determine one's intelligence by viewing their facial expressions.tzyuforever wrote:Wow. Back to the topic at hand . .
Yep, thats him. He fits the bill of the thread title I'd say.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:James Butler
He later killed Max Kellerman's brother.
I was hoping this would be about "Boxing smarts". Obviously there are many, many guys that weren't that bright.wsbuf wrote:Thats a better thread. Dumb as a fighter. I think you have a point about mcneeley being the dumbest guy in terms of his goofy behaviour and dumb facial expressions.BarryWashington wrote:It's the way McNeeley carried himself and what he did outside of the ring. Make a list of the figters who quit on top and the list of those who didn't and see which list is longer.
