Unbeaten Cuban heavyweight Mike Perez is promising double trouble on the Yanjing Fight Night in Limerick on Saturday as he bids to enter the record books by fighting twice on the same night in officially recorded professional bouts.

Perez features on the undercard of Andy Lee's clash with former European Champion Mamadou Thiam and he's hoping to make the boxing word sit up and take notice with an incredible double.

Perez will open the show on Saturday night when he takes on Latvia's Edgar Kalnars and should everything go smoothly for the Cork based southpaw in that contest then he will be back in the ring for a second time in a matter of hours when he faces Tomas Mrazek from the Czech Republic. well done brian peters! iv heard ALOT of good things about perez, apparently he has big big power and fights like tyson. havn't actually seen him box which is a shame. will this be on rte?

RTE are doing a two and a half hour broadcast and as this has never been done before I'm sure they might show him later in the broadcast after Lee's fight and the Irish title fights.

It's in Ireland so the BBBoC have nothing to do with it, the BUI are the governing body in Ireland.

You've been slightly misinformed about Perez so. He is indeed built like Tyson(a relatively short, stocky Heavyweight), and carries a decent dig but I wouldn't consider him to have 'big, big power'. His style is more of a typical Cuban one than that of Tyson's peek a boo inside fighting.
He's pretty talented and I think he has the makings of a very good fighter, unfortunately I think the size difference between him and the juggernauts of the division will always hold him back. He needs to be more disciplined in training, come into bouts in better shape and use a high workrate in his fights.

He's got potential though and I'm glad there's people in Ireland still willing to give him a chance after Gary Hyde dropped him(same for all the Cubans).

If he's Cuban, he's probably already had about 400 amateur fights. Two fights in one night is a breeze, then, but I think it is a fairly pointless exercise bordering on the stupid.

looking at one or two of his amateur record, i saw he lost to Miguel Cotto in 2000! yes the welter champ.

lol, considering Glen was training him you'd think he'd know better. Perhaps a bit of hyperbole on Glen's part.

I was speaking to Gary Hyde last week and he compared Perez like Tyson - "he used to refer to him as his 'tyson clone' in terms of speed, power, head movement etc.....

I've seen Perez live and the kid is sh1t hot!! I watched him take kenny Egan to pieces.. He was only a baby then and let me say this, Kenny Egan is a class act!!

It might seem a stupid thing to do, but it will get him a lot of coverage. One 6x2's bout against a beatable opponent won't compare to the press he'll get doing it twice in one night.

i think we learnt more in those 2 lines than the rest of the thread put together.

Can these Cubans box anywhere in the UK? and are they eligible to fight for titles? Certainly spices things up. I'd love to see more domestic heavyweight clashes - seems to me there's anything up to 20 fighters going under the name contender at the moment, and a few old guys.

I've seen him fight twice live(when he headlined in Neptune and also his last fight) and most of his other fights on Youtube/RTÉ, and while he does indeed exhibit very good speed, head movement and good power he's no Tyson clone imo. Too often people are willing to compare their protege or prospect to a quality fighter of the not too distant past or present eg.Sugar Ray Leonard/Roy Jones jnr/ Tyson etc.
Boytsov is probably the closest thing to a Tyson clone out there at the moment and while there are quite a few similarities he's still quite different.

NorthEastBoxingfan the Cubans can fight anywhere in the UK without too much trouble as far as I'm aware, afterall the 3 of them did fight in Newcastle already and were trained by Glen McCrory up there for a while. In terms of eligibility they'll be eligible for the Irish and European titles in a few years.

Bigears is right - The Cubans can box anywhere in the UK. Perez was scheduled to box on our show in Belfast last week but dropped out at the last minute. Alexi Acosta fought Sean Hughes in Belfast on one of our shows last November. Also last week in Belfast Vladimir Chanturia (Gary Hydes newly signed Ukrainian HW) boxed as chief support to Luke Wilton.

All the Cubans hold BUI cards and getting visas for sports persons isn't too hard (provided they aint been in major trouble).
