OH F0CK IT'S DUKE MCKENZIE

I know we shouldn't complain about boxing on ITV but Duke McKenzie, really?

Isn't Gary Mason or some articulate opinionated intelligent guy similar available?

Very good boxer Duke & deserves respect, but he's clearly a rubbish commentator who seems to blurt out sentences he hasn't given any thought.

Just now: 'Khan surrounds himself with professional people'...

Really Duke? the Khan Army? This could be a long one.

" It's quite rare in boxing that you see two fighters of this caliber fighting each other at this stage in their careers and it's good to see!"

What the F%ck are you yapping about Duke? Ortiz-Campbell and Khan-Malignaggi are solid world level bouts and no more. stop shooting off your pie hole and think before talking you muppet. :box:

Duke round 7 commentary - "Why get involved into a punch up and make the fight uncomfortable when he is clearly outboxing Campbell"

And thus revealing his mindset which shows why he won three world titles but never made much impact worldwide and never earnt the big money like someone like Naz who knew that boxing earnings are linked to uhm, exciting the fans.

What a total nobber who knows how to box but nothing about boxing

"Its not often you see fighters of this calibre competing against each other at this stage of their careers, it is great to see"

Nice one Duke. A prospect teeing off against an aged former champion is very unusual. Well spotted

Well, he mentions the "bit of crowd trouble" during round 6. Then guesses what causes it- people not liking what they are seeing?

Well, great.

Why not "pudenda who ruin boxing for everyone else?"

I think the posts on here slagging off Duke are nothing short of disgraceful.

Here we have a three weight world champion and if you have ever met him one of the nicest men you would ever wish to meet, not to mention extremely knowledgeable about the game. Just because he hasnt had a first class academic eduaction like Rawling, and people like John Inverdale you are slagging him off.

The bloke has been braodcasting for years now and is one of the best fighters this country has ever produced.

Now, what the fcuk have you lot acheived in comparison?

No one is disputing that he is a lovely bloke or that he achieved a lot in boxing. It's nothing personal like, people just don't think he is a very good commentator, and they are entitled to their opinion. I would much rather have someone else doing it but it's not because I think he's a c**t or anything, it's just because I don't think he's any good at it.

Are you suggesting that the only people allowed to criticise his commentaries are other three-time world champions? I guess that counts me out then.

Boxing coverage is a product and we, the fans are the customers. If customers don't like the product then they complain. This has nothing to do with McKenzie's past achievements.

Duke was a bit before my time, I know he won 3 WBO belts at different weights, did he ever fight any really good champions, ie the best of the division to do it?

My favourite from last night: about a minute after Duke's card gets displayed where it shows he gave PM Round 2, he says Kahn hasn't given PM anything tonight.

Also, he aid he round 3 was 'even money' and then after the 4th, 'that one was much more even money'.

I have to say I don't think either commentator give Kahn enough credit last night, PM is one awkward fighter and that was about as good as you could wish to look against him. They constantly said this is not a great performance, only a good one blah blah blah. He's winning every round without any trouble what more do you want?

I agree. Why shouldn't we be allowed to judge boxing commentators on the quality of their boxing commentary? I expect HBO have felt McCannW14's wrath already for letting Lennox Lewis go for being a poor colour commentator. He was a great boxer so he should have any other job he chooses for as long as he wants it, right?

If you can assure us all that volunteering is all it takes for an audtion then show us all where to sign up. You won't be short of applicants.

Thing is I agree that Lennox is a poor commentator, wheras Duke is good.

The funiest thing about Duke is half the time if you wrote down the way he scores every round it doesnt tally up with who he says is a certain number of points up

nicely put :TU:
always enjoy listening to Duke's commentary, your comments about education are probably spot on. Duke probably wasn't stuck in the books for years....hence that's why he was a top fighter (not that I ever saw him I don't think).
Some of the insults above make people look right mugs.

it could be worse you know......could have that C*NT of the highest order Alan Green from Radio 5 Live football commentaries shouting "NOT GOOD ENOUGH...NOT GOOD ENOUGH fighter x y z etc...."....what a c*nt that man is.
Saw his photo on Google, his face is as insulting as his personality - quite a fcking feat!

Duke's alright...........luckily John my Russian/ Panamanian/ Latvian's fluent.... gets me every time.

Calling him names is out of order and completely unneccessary. However, I do agree his commentating leaves something to be desired! He does contradict himself many times! As mentioned, after giving Malignaggi rounds 2 & 3 he states later in the fight "I haven't given Malignaggi anything."

He does his best and clearly loves the sport. Give the guy a break.

Who is the best we have? Not exactly a wealth of commentating talent in the UK at the moment. Harry and Reg were the best we had.

To volunteer you have to send a showreel and application to any of the TV companies....pretty simple really..
