You know Ron Lyle was actually 6 months older then Oscar Bonavena when they fought in Denver CO. March 1974?
32 years old is considered a prime age for a heavyweight by some.
Ron Lyle born 2.12.1941
Bonavena born 9.25.1942

Bonavena was winding down. Lyle was on the up-swing.

I knew a guy in Denver who saw the fight and said Bonavena got screwed on that decision. Don't know personally. I never saw it. But that's what the man said.

Thats what Earnie Shavers felt too when he fought Lyle in Denver.

Liston & Marciano would've KO'ed Bonavena at some stage. I think Bonavena gets off the deck to stop Shavers in a sloppy, but exciting, battle, over about six rounds. Lyle & Bonavena, top of their games, would be close. I lean toward Lyle.

? I don't see how one decides that Oscar was suddenly 'washed up' for the Lyle bout . . he was only 32 and in his next fight would soundly outpoint noted spoiler Larry Middleton. I also think Oscar was robbed vs Patterson in '72. I think Lyle-Bonavena prime for prime would look exactly like their actual fight.

I think Ringo loses to all of these guys except Shavers, who he stops late.

I thought Bonavena vs Patterson was a close affair, though
I did have Patterson ahead on that one.
I have a pretty good copy of that bout and its most certainly
worth a watch.

id love to see Oscar vs Lyle.

Patterson-Bonavena(1971)Bonavena claimed he hurt his left hand in the first round and it agonized in the fifth round.
It was later revealed that he had fractured his 3 metacarpal bone high on his left hand in the fifth round when he hit Patterson on top of the head.(Bonavena was sidelined for 18 months after this fight).

i'd love to see Oscar against Marciano.

I think he would do better than some here think.

Im guessing Charlie Goldman would be in Marciano's corner.

I thinki Marcino vs Bonavena would be a nice and close
fight also. I would favour Marciano. But it would have
its close moments. Both well conditioned, hard nosed
bangers.

Marciano's better conditioning and sheer pride would
no doubt come into effect for victory on this one.

How did every one score Bonavena vs Patterson?

I shall re watch it later and score it myself.

I had it for Bonavena by two, but it's been literally years...
