What do you need to do to become a pro boxer or a promoter?

Just curious about the sort of barriers to entry there are in the boxing world.
The bbbc say that to become a pro boxer you must have extensive amateur experience though they will licence people who have had no amateur experience but have been trained by a pro coach profficiently? This seems a contradictory statement to make how much does it cost for a pro boxing licence?
Similarly what sort of guarantees do promoters have to give to the board are they financial or do they have to have an extensive knowledge of boxing rules and regs can literally anybody of any age or background apply and how much does a promoters licence cost?
Hoping somebody in the industry can fill me in thanks

I often wonder how much actual work is involved in promoting a show. Book a venue, knock some posters out....start on a small scale, make a few calls, presumably the Board provide you with a book with trainers phone numbers etc...
You'd need to be connected to some fighters, or start with your own, you wouldn't expect some budding young pro's to to fight for anybody, you'd have to show that you had some background/ interest in boxing and a bit of business acumen and the cash to put it together.
I'm not saying there would be any money in it to start with, but I imagine it's do-able, if you were determined enough.
When you see the likes of Talk to Fwank sitting at the top of the tree preaching about being the number 1, what precisely is allegedly providing that somebody else with a pot of spare cash couldn't. imo.
Look at Hatton for example, he seems to have made the transition seamlessly.

Hatton is running at a 700k loss, this promoting lark is a proper tough job

Good grief.....the EBU don't do "friends and family discounts" then!
700k is a huge loss in just over a year or so. Mind you he's got it, I'm sure he will make it work for himself. In any event, it's a hobby for him, he won't mind paying a few quid for it.
Didn't Macklin win an European title with him...I'm sure a fight in Birmingham would do okay, I bet the arenas charge a fortune to host there.

I'm willing to bet once Ricky definitely retires, he will go at Hatton Promotions and his stable of fighters full attention.
while he's still fighting or not yet retired he's got other thoughts and certainly can't split his time into one such commitment. You watch in a year or so Hatton Promotions will be going great guns!

Or maybe when Matthew Hatton retires he may lose interest

I disagree completely. I think in the medium- to long-term Hatton Promotions are doomed to failure. It's a dying sport in this country judged purely in terms of the potential revenue that can be earned from it, and you already have established promoters scrabbling around for an ever-smaller piece of the pie.
There simply isn't room for a 'newbie', especially one who lacks the financial acumen you need to mix it in such 'shark-infested' waters.
In very plain terms, whether you are looking at pro boxers or promotoers there are far, far easier ways to make a living!

Boxing promoting in the professional ranks is dam difficult - you can have all the money in the world but if you do not have the right connections 0r more importantly you upset the wrong people which include - the World Governing Bodies, the BBBofC, the TV Executives, or the press amongst others then you are f*cked no matter who you are.
To be a really successful promoter - I will state the obvious - you need a genuine world star - from him you start to build - TV contract, big promotions, and hopefully other talented boxers will come knocking at the door - in addition you somehow someway you have to find a way of working with other promoters.
I have said it loads of times what really f*cks up some possibly good promoters is boxing politics - there are some obvious candidates who could have been big but screwed up one way or another.
Whoops the biggest factor of all is an "alledged" must asset you need in your locker - " you must be willing to sell your grandmother at the drop of a hat" - some people will know exactly what I mean by that - if you are too nice and play by the rules - you are doomed.

There is a book - although I forgotten its name all about a young sports journalist / teacher - who sets a goal to become a pro boxer for 1 fight.
The book details his tranining and poltiics and what he went through - he trained alongside Clinton Woods back in the 1990's I think.
He then eventually had a 6 round bout.
Its a very interesting read - as it documents a complete novice who never fought amateur or pro - and what it took for him to finally step in the ring as a pro boxer.

now i dont claim to be an expert on this as i only promote white collar , but...... im pretty sure the board will license a promotor as long as they can make certain financial guarantees , im sure theres got to be other ways in too , but if for example i won the lottery and therfor had a bit of financial clout then im pretty sure id get licensed and the fact ive promoted already so have an understanding of what im doing , i think id be capable , i dont think youd be given a book of numbers though

, youd need to already have contacts , ive thought about how id do it if i ever came into some serious money , knowing id make a huge loss on the way id do it , id effectively be treating at as a hobby in the same way im sure some rich tycoons do with football clubs .
As far as contacts are concerned though , a good place to start getting in touch with fighters and promotors would surely be be good old boxrec , along with facebook , not of course as a main but to just make initial contact .
One things for sure , if i win the euro millions there will be a years worth of cracking shows in this country .
As for boxing pro , am i right in saying not just anyone can apply for a license , havent you got to be put forward by a pro trainer/promotor ???????
Also to answer another of your questions , i think i remember billy bessey saying on here once that a po license with all scans etc all in all would cost around £750 per year.

Fantastic read that, amazing how the guy transformed himself. He went from being a bit of a fatty to being cut like a pro in a relatively short period.

Is that for every fight or do you get covered for a year and then have to get tested again?

scans medicals licence fees are yearly it costs around 500-600 a yr just to be a pro so for the lesser lights thats the first fights money of the yr gone
So all these costs have to be paid for by the fighter theirselves then or do promoters pay? Or is it a case ofsome of the big promoters pay but a journeyman might have to get it al done himself

Generally fighters with bigger promoters get all this paid for, the ordinary boxer pays himself or sometimes lends money off his manager and then pays it back after his first fight.
It used to be just a cat scan every 3 years which cost bout 100 quid, then in a bit of a kneejerk reaction to a fatality you had to have a one off mra scan and a yearly mri. The mri was bout 300 quid but FW set up a fund where the board gave each fighter a 100 quid rebate
