Ryan Rhodes says it all went according to plan

Ryan Rhodes reckoned that his win over Luca Messi inside six rounds was as good as he could have expected as he successfully defended his European Light Middleweight title. Now he wants a world title shot, although admits he may have to make a mandatory defence of the European belt.

Rhodes looked bigger and stronger than ever at light-middleweight. That was my overriding impression.

Rhodes is one of my favourite fighters because he is exciting to watch and very skillful. He deserves a title shot and I believe he has enough to win it. It seems he doesnt always listen to his corner though and at times his defense is lacking which he must work on. Good luck to Ryan, I have never met him, but he seems a really nice bloke.

I get a somewhat nostalgic feeling (im only 28yrs) about watching Rhodes' recent success.
Its great to see one of the young stars of the 90s still performing and operating so well long after all the razzama dazzle of the 90s media has faded away.
Good luck to the lad. He definitely deserves it!

Here's hoping guys.
He may be 33 and been around longer than most, but he is in his prime.

Really enjoyed Ryan's performance Friday, looked very good indeed, especially considering he'd been out a while.
Really hope he gets the world shot soon.

Rhodes looked good, but how good is Messi.
Hopefully he gets his chance for a world shot although i just see him missing out like moore did
Failing a world title shot would love to see him and Small fight for the European, woudl be a good tough close fight for 12 rounds

Are you seriously taking the piss ?
Small is so far down the pecking order it's not true.
No way is he going to feast at the Rhodes table.
Let him pick up scraps - but then again will anybody feed him scraps ?
Hardly a queue of interested Promotors, and no title.
Reap what you sow.

As at April before the Messi fight Small was ranked 2 places above Messi

sparring ryans very very tough hes very heavy handed and fast he disguises his shots well keeps you guessing all the time i know im biased but i really do think he will win a proper world title if he can get a shot before the years out he will win it because i think hes mentally and physically in his prime right now 26 is ryans secret love child he had when he was in his teens to a stripper from a rough part of town keep that between us mate nobodys suppose to know!!

I am however delighted you think I'm Ryan's child - seeing as I'm fifty fuckin three !
Either I'm wearing well, or Rhodes is looking sick !!

Boxrec have Small at no.26 in the world ratings - Messi is no. 172.
Small may move to a new trainer and is linked with the same promoter, so this isn't too far fetched.

Where is Small in the official EBU rankings ?
Oh no - not ANOTHER trainer.
We are talking about the same man who in this week's Boxing News has begun begging Sam Webb for a rematch ?
As for Promoting Small, let's be serious, who is really going to be interested ?
Mandatory for Rhodes is Konecny.
Purse bids already requested.
Small will not face Rhodes - no way.

why is everyone going on about small for?
agreed 12-18 months ago when the fight was being done it was interesting but Ryan has gone up to genuine world class with the moore win and european title, while small is back as a fringe british title contender after his two stinking perfomances. (take nothing away from webb here who battled hard and overcame the cut and deserved the win)....small isnt in the same spheres as ryan now.
either way it wouldnt go past 6 on present form...
