Who out of the Beijing Olympians who turned professional will be the first to win a British title?

Hard question as you don't know which route fighters are going to be taken down.

Khan and Harrison totally bypassed the title and both are sitting quite pretty at the moment.

I think Frankie Gavin beating Lenny Daws seems the most likely at the moment. Smith would be that too savvy for Degale, Jaffa is nowhere near Nathan Cleverly, and BJS just hasnt done it for me so far.

I certainly think Big Pricey would wipe out Chisora but thats another match that is a while away.

James DeGale has been pushed the hardest so far. It's either him or Frankie Gavin, I think, if they go that route.

I think Lenny Daws is very beatable and Gavin may fight him fairly soon, plus he is the best out of the lot of them imo

I'd love to be proved wrong, but I'd be surprised to see any of these prospects lined up against a decent defending champion.

If any go the British title "route" , it's likely to be for a vacant title, against a more beatable opponent.

Idve said Joe Murray had he been an option but seen as though hes not 100% Funtime Frankie

It will be Gavin. Wouldn't mind betting a sideline of making a Jennings-O'Donnell fight was making a Daws-Gavin one

I like Gavin but DeGale seems a bit further on at the mo. If Smith vacates to go Euro level then he could be in the mix for a shot at the vacant belt somewhere down the line.

x 2 - Frankie would stand him on his head.

Arnie has done a great job getting him away from Brum, improving his fitness and strength and getting him sitting down on his power shots (whilst not ignoring his boxing skills).

Daws advantages of strength and work rate would be more than negated by Frankie's boxing ability.

There is some good fighters at Light Welter- it would be good to see Gavin matched with someone like Nigel Wright or Coling Lynes (if he is still active), or Jason Cook.

I would love to fight lenny daws next, its a tough fight but i think i am more than capable of beating daws an i think its only matter before we fight

The pace of progress should correspond to the relative talent, am experience and maturity of the fighter in question: Frankie has gained his 'man strength' now and that, coupled with his boxing skills and seemingly improved levels of fitness means he will be ready for the British title probably before he reaches double digits in terms of fights.

Think of how quickly a fellow world am champion was moved in the pros - Kostya Tszyu. I am not suggesting that Frankie is moved that quickly (ie Juan La Porte in his 4th fight) but progression and match making are all relative to the individual fighter.

How about fitting in the Irish title as well? Andrew Murray is a well schooled boxer and would give you a decent arguement.

True, but in keeping with the theme of the topic, it seems fair to discuss future potential match ups- which maybe in the near future.

He can step up to light welter but is more comfortable at 135. Tough cookie is Murray and a really good operator, hopefully will get his European shot this year.

Top Irish light welter behind McCloskey at the moment is Dean Byrne, now that would be a good one between the two of ye.
