Was it any good? Can't even find a thread about it.
I was worried for Brian for a while, he went down VERY heavybfchunk wrote:One of the KO's of the year so far with Max Maxwell over Brian Rose.

Let Small have the rematch. That should cure it.

Pressumably Maxwell is entitled to a shot at the title, then?
I hope Brian is ok and there is no repurcusions from the heavy KO loss but I would like to also say well done to Boxrec's jonp and Max Maxwell.bfchunk wrote:One of the KO's of the year so far with Max Maxwell over Brian Rose.
couldn't agree more martin, well done to Max, absolutely made up for him, good lad and a good pro.markinmidd wrote:great knockout by maxwell. thankfully brian seemed to recover.Lets hope maxwell gets his chance.Honest solid semi pro.Well done max and to his team.
I think thats a very good point. Just being a prospect , in itself, shouldn't ever be seen as qualification for challenging for the British Title.TheCobra wrote:
talk of a british title shot for the kid was surely premature based on beating a past it Rushton and a bunch of journeymen fighters with losing records.

It was up to interpretation whether Maxwell was winning the fight or not, but it was very close without a doubt. I didn't understand the matchmaking in this fight, due to it basically being a tune-up for Rose - they could have picked a easier opponent than Maxwell (who gives everyone a good fight), especially when they were looking at a British title shot next.whicker wrote:I think thats a very good point. Was Maxwell winning the bout?
no maxwell wasnt winning the bout brian was up 4 rounds to 1.. and got caught with a shot that would knock any light-middle.. middle or super middlweight boxer out, how some of you can have the ordasity to come on here and say he was never worthy of being put in for a british title fight is beyond me yet you come up with names like prince arron and alex matvienko.. you have obviously never watched brian box in any length of time.. i hope he proves every last one of you wrong.whicker wrote:I think thats a very good point. HIndsight is a wonderful thingJeff Thomas wrote:To be fair guys Brian was a multi titled amateur who had made his way through to 14-0-1 fairly inconspicuously having tuned pro with Wally Dixon and then moving over to Steve Wood. The journeyman he had beaten were of the decent variety Noble and Harvey both capable of very good results as was the opponent he drew with in Salari.
The fight with Webb appeared to be signed and sealed so I'm wondering why it was nessesary to take on Maxwell who had proven himself to be an awkward handful win, lose or draw. Surely after having fought so many moderate opponents- the time for a step up in class shouldn't have come in the run up to such a big fight?
Bobby Rimmer and Steve Wood have done a fine job negotiating him to this stage so i'm wondering why the sudden change of heart, was it something that Sky insisted on, and if so why? Being such a physical fighter head clashes were also a possibility and sure enough he was cut early in the fight. Risky enough when you've got a British title fight scheduled in a matter of weeks.
I'm not aware of all the facts but I know Brian will be absolutely gutted as will his team. They've worked hard building his experience and certainly his following so i'm really confused at the whole scenario. Perhaps i'm been a little wise after the event and I did think Brian would be too good for Maxwell but thats boxing I suppose. Best wishes to Brian and his team. I'm sure he'll be back wiser for the experiience, hopefully there will be some light shed on this in the next week ors so.
Sure it is but considering the outcome of the bout before it took place did you think it was going to be easy? Maybe they wanted to test him before the Webb fight to give some indication of what he needed to work on going forward.chris s wrote:HIndsight is a wonderful thingJeff Thomas wrote:To be fair guys Brian was a multi titled amateur who had made his way through to 14-0-1 fairly inconspicuously having tuned pro with Wally Dixon and then moving over to Steve Wood.
