David "Deron" Haye has gone quiet

"It looks more and more likely that heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko will next face mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin instead of David Haye in a unification bout, Klitschko manager Bernd Boente told ESPN.com. Klitschko, as well as fellow titleholder and brother Vitali Klitschko, wants to fight Haye, who has trash-talked both of them for ages. Boente said they offered Haye a 50-50 deal to fight Wladimir in the fall without asking for options on any future Haye bouts. That is a major improvement over past offers, which included less than 50-50 and multiple options. Boente said the latest offer proves how much Klitschko wants to get Haye into the ring. "But we do not hear anything back from Haye or [manager] Adam Booth. All of a sudden Haye is very quiet now after doing all of that talking about fighting," Boente said. He said if they can't close a deal with Haye, Klitschko will face Povetkin whether they can negotiate terms or go to a purse bid."

anyone care to defend haye now? He talked sh*t about Wlad for ages, and now Wlad offers him a 50-50 fight, no options, and still Haye keeps quiet. I would like to hear someone defend Haye as he has really really gone down in my book with this show of cowardice

Well things have changed since Haye was openly calling out Wlad and Vitali.

He has won a WBA Heavyweight title - calls himself the heavyweight champ - has everyone - the main stream media at least - believeing he is the heavyweight champ - and has become a A list - Sky Box Office - Celebrity fighter.

Haye use to fight on Sky - Friday fight nights, etc - as a British propsect

Then he fought Maccarinelli and Monte Barret on Setanta

But since the Valuev freak show fight - he has been sky box office - and he pulled off the win

John Ruiz fight was Sky Box office

2 fights in a row - pay per view - for a fighter who had never been a pay per view attraction before

He has had a taste of the bigger money and success and fame..............he dosent need Wlad or Vitali now

Yes - principals and honour - go out the window - when easy money is on the table

He can fight Audely Harrison for a seven figure purse = he might even make a offer to get Danny Williams out of retirement

Booth said they are considering "a number of opitions"...................not what we were expected to hear

We thought only 2 opitions mattered..................Wlad or Vitali.................either one is acceptable

Booth and Haye both now know they can make easy / big money - with a series of Sky Box Office fights

But fight Wlad and Vitali and lose.................the title / the status / the fame / - he loses it all

Haye is now just become a joking champion - kidding the main stream he is the Heavyweight Champ -

Bruno V Lewis was much a bigger fight

some fighters like israel vazquez and rafael marquez have to beat the shit, out of each other 3 times just to make a decent payday. and they do it a 4th time, total overkill, the fight nothing compared to the previous ones, and a great fighter (vazquez) pummeled, dropped and cut to ribbons.

it's a hard sport. haye can be in some big events, make some big money. it's not all about fighting a klitschko. who's to say it won't happen? at least we've learned he doesn't want wlad. that doesn't mean the vitali fight won't happen. do we then have to hve vitali signed, sealed and delivered right effing now?

haye could lose his title in germany, and then it'll be harder for him to command the big TV dates even over here. he should take the big fights when the time is right. he should do whatever it takes for him to become a major force not only as a fighter, but a promoter too. he's our first heavyweight champ since lewis, and there is a lot to lose for hayemaker and sky sports, who will be profiting well from selling heavyweight title fights on their box office platform.

granted, haye said this and haye said that. we don't have to take his hype literally though, do we? no wonder he's being quiet. didn't he end up helping to sell out wlad vs chagaev (haye's replacement) due to his big gob?

I hear your voice of reason AUTOBARN

But it must be very disappointing for Hayes fans - who got behind him - who believed him - when he said he would fight Godzilla and whoever they put in front of him.

He is so exciting ,so brave, so fearless, fight anyone, etc

He loses credibailty as a person - his whole persona of the last couple of years - is now comprmised

Wlad - you got to give the geezer credit - he wants the fight - 50/50 offer is just been made to see if Haye really does -

It makes Haye look like a joke now

Interesting thread.

Another thought for you all - its a boxer and managers job to make as much money as possible.

Personally I think Haye v Harrison is one of the biggest mismatches in boxing history - but it will make both fighters and everyone involved a lot of money - its logical for that reason for the fight to go ahead - Joe Public actually believe that could be a good fight FFS.

In my view Haye and Booth are playing their cards correctly - the progress Haye has made in a relatively short space of time makes him entitled to pick and choose here and there.

'Cos Haye keeps harping on about leaving a 'legacy', perhaps?

He isn't going to leave much of a legacy by fighting the likes of Audrey...

Do you understand Boxing?

As a Haye fan who has followed him since his Am days and watched as he has never once taken the easy route to achieve what he has said he wants to achieve, not rushing into a fools agreement with the Klitschkos makes perfect sense.

His credibility as a person is not compromised; on the contrary, it is to be applauded that he is prepared to stand his ground in negotiations given that he has the weight of SBO numbers behind him.

As for the Wlad offer - where is the link? The actual quotes/video evidence to support the original post? I could quite easily post a few sentences, citing Adam Booth having offered the Klits a deal but having heard no response based on nothing but my fevered imagination.

I've long learned to ignore 90% of what is said outside of the ring as it is invariably used to hype and sell fights as that is what makes boxers more money. Based on what goes on inside the ring, David Haye is about as far from a joke as its possible to find in boxing today.

Applauded for standing his ground in negotiations?

That's a quite a puzzling view if the offer was genuine. 50/50, no options. Was he holding out for a 60/40 split?

And where is a shred of evidence to suggest its a genuine offer? It flies in the face of previous offers and all statements made by the Klits and their team since Haye arrived on the scene.

If its a genuine offer, tabled in the correct manner (rather than just leaked through the mate of a mate of someone who once had a beer at place near wlads gym), then i'll be interested, but otherwise its just internet gossip and hearsay.

I would be absolutely amazed if the Klits offered a 50-50 split with no options.
I would be suprised if they offered a 50-50 split on Setanta money!!

he had to scream and yell for a klitschko fight before, because he couldn't make cruiserweight anymore and was anxious his next heavyweight title/payday.

let's not forget, he did get this in the valuev fight. no wonder he has cooled down a bit. this gives him something more to bargain with, but as he said, he won't be exploited in negotiations. at least it's become clear which brother he wants to fight (vitali, almost certainly).

nonetheless, as a promoter, haye has made some serious errors with what he has said in front of the media. he's pushed himself into that corner in which ppl won't take him seriously if he does nothing less than challenge a klitschko. but forget his daft rhetoric, which has been taken "straight" by literal-minded fans. he isn't the finished article yet and could do with another good KO victory.

but the man certainly has options - more options that most in boxing. an all british event (audley), a war between former cruiser champs (adamek), the next top contender (chagaev). just about everyone who posts on haye wants ALL OR NOTHING. however, boxing is seldom like that and usually finds a more comfortable middle ground.

Vitali fights the tough, ponderous boxers and Wlad fights the fast, skilful ones, in general. Through this they've managed to choose the right match-ups to provide the least amount of risk. Having 2 people thought of as one is a very nice thing for them.

With that said, it shows that Haye is a Wlad opponent. That's the way the Klitschkos want it.

Haye is a bit of a joke now to be honest. But luckily for him the general public haven't caught on quite yet.

It made me laugh how Bernd Boente (Klischkos manager) described Haye as "a little dog barking at bigger dogs that pass its kennel. It never does anything ... Just barks" ... Kinda sums Haye up nicely. Such a shame this once lion is now being such a dog.

A little dog barks because it's scared, Haye was barking to generate publicity and interest. It was done with purpose. The boxing world is very interested in seeing Haye against a Klitschko, so he's done something right. We're waiting on bated breath for word of his next move.

this is an interesting angle.

it's like wlad might shit his pants vs a puncher, and vitali might sprain his hand and quit vs a guy with quick moves.

maybe haye has done a switcheroo, to upset the klitschko brothers. it's clear he doesn't want wlad. we'll see if he wants vitali. i believe so.

not long ago haye was petrified of enzo "i've already signed for the fight xtimes" maccarinelli. allegedly.

Because he barks .. but seems to have no intention of biting ... well not until either Klitschko is well past it.

All the t-shirt and shopping mall incidents only now serve to make haye look the scared guy. All the not so distant promises of him desperate to get either one into the ring with him .. of fighting the best out there etc ... of fighting for the glory and not the money .. oh, the list seems to go on

Funny also how the guys that previously said that Haye will be the divisions saviour .. are now saying he is doing the right thing to make as much money out of the title :D

I do think he is doing the right thing in making as money as easilly as possible .. then again I never once said he was the heavyweight saviour
Maybe not in this country .. but he will leave a legacy of just another belt holder. Little more than a Chagaev in the world opinion. Because if he does manage to fight either K-brother .. you can guarantee they will be very much on their last legs before he feels safe enough to challenge them

Haye has consistently proved he is willing to fight the best out there and do it it their backyard. He took chump change against Mormeck and gave up options to get Valuev.
On the other hand the Klits have consistently proved they are hard to deal with, I certainly do not believe they offered a 50-50 purse or would do it without options.
To mock Haye for trying to hold out for half decent terms now he has a belt defies belief
