South African White Title?

I was browsing through Light Middle & Middle Weight contenders and came across South Afircan boxer Charlie Weir, who is listed as having fought in South African White Middle Weight Title 
bouts in 1977 and 1978:

but I see no mention of that type of title in the title search index. Was it not a very common title or was it only around for a little bit? Was it considered less of a title than the generic South Afican Title? I can't imagine you'd be too popular wearing a belt like that in a sport where there is a high percentage of black fighters worldwide.
