Nice thread, I ve always been intrigued by Philly fighters. I think Richie Kates was based in philly too... he certainly had a lot of fights in Philly.
He was in two of my favourite fights, his first bout with Victor Galindez and his fight with the great Saad.
Benny Bass was a great little fighter who was born in Russia, his fight with Tony Canzoneri for the Featherweight title was a classic with Bass breaking his collarbone early in the fight but carrying on to lose on points (and the title).
Midget Wolgast was a great character who was a playboy out of the ring and at one time 'was freindly' with Mae West.
Personally I'd have rated Saad a bit higher (top 10 at least) but thats just personal nit-picking on my part.... Saad is one of my all-time favourite fighters.

Just realised you left out Frank Fletcher.... the great 'Animal'.... surely one of the most exciting and savage fighters I ve ever seen!...... a fight between the 'animal' and Hagler would have been something to see when Fletcher was at his peak........ I honestly think Fletcher would have troubled Hagler with his non-stop aggression and desire.... The Fletcher who lost to Roldon and Mugubi was in my opinion burnt out by all the wars he'd had in such a short space of time.

If you are lifting somebody else's list, then at least credit them with it.
This list is from historian Chuck Hasson.
He co-wrote an excellent book on Philadelphia Boxing, "Philadelphia's Boxing Heritage 1876-1976".
Shill, toilet, garbage, mantra, Farhood, low mentality, modern media myth.

Well, they let racists like you stick around, so I doubt they will do anything to anyone else.

The moderators have no concern about the trash this site has tuned into.
