Cook's opponent still not finalised

JASON Cook will face Latin American opposition when he bids for the vacant IBO lightweight title at Bridgend Sports Centre on November 8.

The 28-year-old former European champion from Maesteg will take on either Mexican Efren Hinojosa or Argentinian Ariel Olveira - and, with the IBO now insisting that all title challengers must be in the top 35 of the independent world boxing rankings, neither man should be a pushover.

Cook is currently No 10 in the list, with Olveira in 22nd position and Hinojosa 35th.

Hinojosa, a 31-year-old with victories over world-class names like Lamar Murphy and Ivan Robinson, would be the preferred choice of TV paymasters Sky.

Will go to see Cookie fight once again down my local Recreation Centre (I live in Bridgend) and hope he can make the scales this time. Was there when he beat Stefano Zoff and will be there again when he challenges for the IBO Lightweight Belt altho' IMO he should move up a weight.

I think he was due to go to war with Oliviera in July but the Bout was called off... hopefully Cookie will bring another belt back home to Wales :D

Yes, both sound like very credible opponents. Cook's ranking of 10 certainly sounds high to me and I'd expect Hinojosa or Oliveira to push him all the way.

Hope you've got a ticket for this one, TT, apparently it's a sellout.

I have got mine luckily, we like our boxing down here but nothing really to shout about recently. my old man was a regular at Joe Erskine and Dick Richardson fights down Porthcawl Pavilion and around South Wales, will definately be there to watch Cookie fight...
