Holyfield/Tyson 1-respect for Holyfield, SRL Duran two, ugh!

After these fights, I gained respect for Holyfield and lost respect for SRL.

When you see SRR below, please substitute SRL - apparently, I have taken too many punches even though I have never been in the ring - only watched fights. :geek2:

Holyfield, at least a short time ago, showed that he is still articulate and insightful. On youtube, I saw Holyfield give an analysis of a fight between Pac and Mayweather. He was excellent - no speech problems and for me, a very good analysis.

I wish I had the film clip or TV clip or whatever it was. But, I once saw Holyfield explain his victory in his first fight with Tyson. This explanation was a superb analysis of Tyson. For example, with fixed frame of Tyson, he explained how he could throw an uppercut and because of the placement of Tyson's feet, there was no way that Tyson could respond.

Holyfield and his camp had analyzed Tyson and determined how Holyfield could beat Tyson (Tyson, at his best - no handicaps).

On the other hand, I once read an article, long time ago, about the negotiations for Leonard - Duran II. Basically, SRR's camp did everything they could to see that SRR would NOT face Duran at his best. Ring size, gloves, timing of the fight - all intended to make sure that SRR would win (victory over Duran at his worst).

Recently, on youtube, I expect it is still there - I saw Duran and Leonard comment on No Mas - the second fight. Well, they said much of the same - Duran, as he normally did, partied after the first fight and put on a huge amount of weight. OK, what bothered me was that SRR smiled as he explained that they knew Duran would do this (fighting Duran at his worst and not his best).

Later, Holyfield kept on fighting the best at their best. SRR used his name recognition (and, to give credit, his intelligence) to continually pad his resume - getting the opponent to fight under SRR's conditions, at SRR's timing - SRR shoe-shining, fighting the last 30 seconds to "steal" the round.

I was a Duran fan before the first fight. And, I thought Duran won (amazing - Duran, a smaller fighter with a 73 - 1 record beating SRR, a bigger fighter). But, I watched the fight numerous times. Each time, I gained respect for SRR - a warrior. SRR a fighter!! SRR, the heart of a Lion.

Also, SRR vs Hearns I - a great, great, outstanding performance by SRR.

But, that seemed to be the end of SRR. Later, picking opponents, setting conditions, shoe-shining......

Holyfield continued to be the warrior (yes, I wish he would retire) and SRR became - well, I don't know what he became - the prototype for ??? a bullshit record (beating Donny LaLonde - Donny who??).

Holyfield - a warrior!!! (wish he would retire).

SRR - prototype for all that is wrong with boxing today! SRR, a great fighter! SRR, a warrior in Hearns I, a warrior in Duran I.

So, sad that SRR gave up being a warrior and became...

Holyfield's brain seems OK but mine, not so good. :OhYes:
