Shaun Gray of west ham boys club died suddenly of a heart attack on 25/05/2010 age 35.
Shaun won 7 junior National Titles, & a silver medal at the junior olympics in the USA.
Of 32 wins, 28 were by way of KO or stoppage.
He leaves a daughter age 13.

Sad news

RIP

I mentioned him a few weeks ago on a "where are they now" thread on here.
Pretty sure he also had a Brother who boxed (Patsy?) who died a few years ago.

shaun gray was my idol when i was training and trying in the early 90's. he was the absolute best at his weight and dominated as much as gary lockett or naseem hamed. i wrote to boxing news about 5 years ago asking how he was doing; i wondered why he had never turned professional. he would've been a good british champion without a doubt. i asked after him about a year ago on the newham recorder site (i live up north) and was shocked to hear that his brother (patsy) had passed away; patsy was a proper good, hard fighter who beat wayne alexander as an amateur (on youtube). i am gutted that shaun has died at such a young age though i never met him; i feel awfully sorry for his family who have lost 2 young men in their primes. RIP shaun and patsy.

from memory; shaun beat terry jennings (who was hard as nails) inside a round and later the same season lost to sam borehamwood on a close decision. Boxing News mentioned how classy shaun was in accepting the defeat,; there was no arguing or foot stamping and he congratulated the winner. in a return bout shaun knocked sam out inside a round. he had it all!

this is very sad new, no matter how many times i hear or see it.

i do remember shaun and pat very well as we had boxed as amertures around the time.
if you were lucky enought to fight on the show as them as i was, you was always guaranteed excitement
when they did fight.

what a talent they both was and they would have been great professions as there style was made for the pro game.

i remember being in the west ham gym around that time and the buzz in there was blinding some of the fighters there at the time was unreal good good times

Hi Simon, I always remember seeing Shaun beat Terry Jennings in the 'Senior' age class in the National Schools Final, on this occasion he beat Jennings on points but he was always a massive puncher. I was two years younger at the time but always remember looking out for his results. I can't remember him boxing as a senior?? Can anyone shed more light on when he retired and why he never turned pro??

Hi Darcy, happy new year to you and the delaney family.

Ya it must have been hard for all the west ham lads, when this said new come out.
Shaun Gray r.i.p was a fantastic fighter in his time and could gone on to be another great great senior and pro at west ham.

Its also very sad news about his brother patrick Gray r.i.p, Like Shaun, another great fighter.

It's very hard to believe it's been 5 years since Shaun passed away, it seems to have gone so quickly. RIP and respect to Shaun Gray a fantastic boxer.
