I go Nelson. His power would be key.. However Morales was very tuff.
Id say Nelson UD or possibly a TKO.
I'm thinking these 2 guys are very underated.
BTW id make Nelson a 2/7 fav. So I don't even see this as that tight a matchup.

I think you possibly need to see more of Morales (prime of course) because you seriously under-rate him. If he was able to take Pac's power and angles on the first fight, then he surely could've compete with Nelson.

I have seen plenty of Morales. And I don't underate him. I just rate Nelson very high.

I think Azumah would do well agains Eric, He gave Sanchez all he could handle before his peak, I think he'd give Morales more than he could handle.

I will be like a politician who shows up for roll call only to abstain. This very hard to pick. Both were great fighters and could do many things well. Would have been a great fight.

Agreed. My money's on Nelson, but this can't be done easily. Just as a green version of him did so well against Sanchez, so, too, did Morales --- when outside his peak --- beat the great Pacquiao.

It's a closer fight than Gambler reckons, IMO, but I favour Nelson. Nelson against Chavez was the one we all really missed out on, real-time.

re the bolded bit, how so? JCC's lightweight reign (1987) began before the Professor's reign at 130lbs (1988) and it was pretty obvious JCC had outgrown 130 by '87. i mean, we missed out because their careers didn't overlap, basically. or is that what you were saying?

anyways, re the hypo. what hasn't been mentioned yet is which zumah turns up, lets not discount the possibility of him doing much better in a rematch, when more motivated or clued into his opponent's game.

there's quite a lot that Morales can do to bother Nelson here, IMO. the Prof could always be outworked by a busy fighter, which Morales mostly was, and whilst I don't really remember anyone sticking it to Nelson with a jab- as his control of distance, plus readiness&willingness to counter jabs with heavy right hands, tended to offset his opponents' jabs- nonetheless i could see Morales having some success backing Nelson onto the ropes with his long-armed flurries.

On Nelson's side of the ledger, he was IMO a much smarter fighter than Morales (I don't, by the way, hold with the theory held by many, that Morales was a boxer who just happened to exchange and fight like a brawler, to his detriment, a great deal, due to some combination of mexican machismo and crowdpleasing chutzpah... to me he simply wasn't very clever in terms of in ring IQ, nor was he super-skilled)... anyways..... i think in a fastpaced fight I would like Morales to outpoint a possibly sluggish Nelson, but for Nelson in the return to take just a little more of the initiative, earlier, in order to take some of the fire away from Morales' attacks...

the 3rd match, a fired-up Morales takes just by wanting it more and working harder for it, though taking some humungous right hands in the process.

Could've worded it better, admittedly. Yes, I mean we didn't miss Chavez-Nelson as a big fight by much, as they were pretty close to over-lapping, & it would've been a wonderful fight.
