Another great fight tonight, Docherty clinging on to retain his title, despite a really bad cut, that should have seen the fight end in the 3rd. No way the cut was ever brought under control by Benny King, despite what Alan Smith on Sky said, again a very biased commentary from the Sky Team, and what was Pat Clinton on, it was plain that Jabir won the first 3 rounds, yet Clinton said he had it 8-1 after 9 rounds!
Also a great comment from Spencer Oliver, "King has this cut under control", the camera pans to Docherty and we said blood pissing out of the cut!
Another worrying night for scottish boxing and you could tell by Tommy Gilmour's reaction was taht he was glad his boy had got through it.

Docherty is good, but the shot version of Michael Gomez beat him. I can't see him going too far.

Had Docherty been fighting anywhere other than Glasgow I reckon this fight would have been stopped in the third round. The referee was very kind to him with regard to the cut, which was a bad one by any standards.
Hats off to Jabir. He was raw and a bit wild but he showed great heart. He was pinned in the corner for half of round four, I think it was, and took a pounding but survived.
A man with greater power would have ended it there and then perhaps. Lack of power may prove to be Docherty's undoing and will probably prevent him from going beyond domestic level.
I'm just glad that Scotland still have a champion. We've had a bad few months. :(

Yeah, a gutsy performance by Doherty. But, I'm afraid Ian John Lewis (as good a ref as he is) needs a SEVERE slap on the wrist (if not more) for his officiating.
Did him scoring the fight, influence his decision not even to go to the fight doctor. He went to the corner once to get it cleaned up, but that was all.
It was a terrible fight and even Doherty admitted it should have been stopped. He couldn't see and the fighters health is of paramounce. Whether Doherty was winning or the hometown fighter - shouldn't have entered the equation. It should have been stopped at least by the 6th when the cut deteriorated. If he'd gone blind then there would have been an massive inquest and there was every chance he could have. Jabir got back into the fight because Doherty couldn't see the right hand coming.
It was up there with Hatton/Thaxton as the poorest decision concerning letting a fight go with cut that's simply too bad. In both instances it was the promoter's 'boy' who recieved the cut and in both instances the promoter was being over enthusiatic ringside. Did that effect the refs judgement - cause its not like a dodgy decision, with individual interpretation. The boxer's health and future livelihood was a risk with allowing it to continue - it should have been stopped.
Jabir (the Carl Thompson / Howard Eastman lookalike) was a breath of Fresh air, I didn't score the fight - but I thought Doherty edged it. Although it was closer than Gilmour or what the final decision.
