Emanuel Steward: "The whole story is bullshit!"

Legendary trainer Emanuel Steward has told Boxingtalk.com that his recent quotes in the Daily Express have been taken out of context.
"I never said anything like that about Lennox. I heard what they wrote, but it's a damn lie! Why would I say something like that? Lennox will decide what he wants to do. Right now he's just enjoying himself, but based on recent conversations, the indications are that Lennox may fight again," said Steward, who later added, "that whole story was bullshit. " Manny also mentioned that Lennox might make an official announcement regarding his future at the Klitschko-Johnson bout in New York on December 6.

Quite glad actually, I do believe there is one good display left in him and I hope he shows it against Vitali Klitchko.

Or maybe Roy Jones.

Shit!

The next time Lewis fights, he'll be close to 39!

Lewis is a gone!

Actually, Vitali would be an easier fight for him than KJ because he won't have to go looking for VK.

Against KJ, he'd have to move alot and expend alot of energy to get to him and Lewis's legs have gone!

This was the reason why he's kept away from Chris byrd because he knew Byrd could make him look terrible and clumsy

Vitali is much easier because VK is so big and easy to hit and like Lewis has bad footwork!

Lewis knows he can beat VK just on sheer brute strength wheras guys like Johnson, Guinn, MESI and Byrd would make him feel his age in the ring!

I was kind of hoping it was true actually, Lewis showed in his last fight he is as good as finished at Heavyweight as i dont think he has the same desire he once did. He should retire and be done with it, i also hope he does not have any daft urges to take the fight with Riddick Bowe should it materialise, money talks and if the carrot is dangled he may take the bait. He would try to fool us all with talk of beating the one man he didnt manage to get in the pro ranks who he would have wanted to beat etc etc But in reality he would be fooling himself if he took the fight, Bowe has been in jail for a while and retired ages ago after being beaten twice by Golota (well not officially but you know what i mean), he was never actually that good anyway imo..... 8)

IMO Byrd would be a supremely easy fight for Lennox, all he has to do to win is stand in centre ring and throw arm punches like Wlad did. Byrd's quick of hand and reflex but he's not a mover. And Lewis has good footwork, he's not twinkle toed but he steps in the right places, that's how I define good footwork.

nasty - I hope you weren't suggesting there that Joe Mesi would have a chance with Lennox Lewis?

There's also at least one other person who heard from Lewis' own lips that he most likely was going to retire - RJJ. According to Jones, he met Lewis at the DLH/Mosley rematch, asked him what his plans were, and Lewis said point-blank, "I think I'm going to hang them up." Of course in the fight game you never can be sure the champ is retired until he actually gives up his titles, and even then you never can be sure that it's for good, but nothing in Lewis' conduct since the Klitschko fight indicates that he still has the motivation necessary to compete at the world championship level. Even for that fight he was fairly out of shape, and staying in shape gets increasingly hard with time and inactivity. That's what makes the multiple comebacks of a guy like Ali all the more impressive, even though Ali likely payed a very high price for them in terms of long-term damage to his health.
