Why?Fury did the 10 as well.bennie wrote:Fury and McDermott are rare breeds - their dads look in better shape than they do. Nevertheless, they went 10 hard rounds last time and the longer it goes this time, the more it favours McDermott.

Yes. I think the outcome of this fight will be decided on Big John's mental approach -- you could see the "C'mon you big fvcker!" look on his face last time out & it made him walk through stuff & throw shots that I didn't think he had it in him to walk through or throw (certainly not after watching him labour in the second Williams fight).Jeff Thomas wrote: Fury 97-93 something like that. McDermot is more then capable of the win physically but I don't think he'll have the right mental approach. He was a big underdog last time and greatly disrespected- this time he's almost expected to win.

Lets see, Mcdonell is by all accounts a slave driver so if anyone is going to bring the best out of McD physically. Furys been quite quiet for this one hasn't he.markp wrote:mcdermott has mcdonell training him and getting in his head for the past few weeks. he has had to live with the injustice of being robbed. he knows he is a big underdog again in the bookies. he dislikes fury immensely. i don't see how he can't be fired up again.
Yeah, McDonnell will have McDermott in his best ever nick and this will help mentally, since he already genuinely feels he beat Fury. He took Furys shots well last time and I fancy him to take them well again. I think this is a 12 rounder and the other fight was a 10 rounder. This will suit Big John. I think Fury is in trouble here. Baring an early KO, I don't see how he wins this one.Jeff Thomas wrote:Lets see, Mcdonell is by all accounts a slave driver so if anyone is going to bring the best out of McD physically. The thing is Fury doesn't have to be massively fit to pick and move- land the odd power shot and walk away or hold and lean on.markp wrote:Yeah, McDonnell will have McDermott in his best ever nick and this will help mentally, since he already genuinely feels he beat Fury. You seem to think that it's not going to take much stamina for Fury to "pick and move" for 12 full rounds. McDermott is going to be coming forward at Fury all night and certainly knows the basics. He knows how to close a fighter down. Fury doesn't have the ability to pick and move for 12 rounds, he will do a lot of in fighting and will take some clubbing shots inside from McDermott all night. McDermott was even landing jabs and right hands on him last time from the outside and working his way inside quite well.Jeff Thomas wrote:The thing is Fury doesn't have to be massively fit to pick and move- land the odd power shot and walk away or hold and lean on.markp wrote:Yeah, McDonnell will have McDermott in his best ever nick and this will help mentally, since he already genuinely feels he beat Fury. The idea of Mcdermot getting in there and setting a frightening pace and drawing Fury into a physical battle looks to me to be a non-starter. I'd love him too, not because i'm anti fury- i like the lad, but if he can make it a hard fight then it will be very entertaining- However he's had so many chances in his career and if he can out jabbed by Mark Krence who didn't have the dynamics of Fury then I think Fury will probably approach this one a bit more smarter and go back to his amateur roots and try and box and move. He's even back with Hughie so its not like he's going to bring anything too new to the table.
The more I think about the more unlikely the upset seems. I know you've got the rumours of poor training and all that- but Fury's not a physical fighter- all he has to do is be in fairly good shape and apply the right tactics and it will be a difficult night for MCD whose fiery start last time coupled with Furys lacklustre approach gave him the best oppertunity of an upset. Can't see it happening again.
We'll see Mark- fair play though i'm almost convinced ha hamarkp wrote:You seem to think that it's not going to take much stamina for Fury to "pick and move" for 12 full rounds. I think your error in thinking is that Fury won't need much stamina in this fight. Even if he was to box and move (which he can't do for 12 rounds without fighting on the inside), he is going to have to dig deep again and this one will get tough for him. McDermott isn't going anywhere and will be coming at Fury for 12 full rounds. Fury doesn't know how to hold on the inside so McDermott will have success once he gets inside.
Don't forget, Fury hasn't completed 12 rounds and the one time he did complete 10 rounds, he showed a real lack of stamina. And his preparations have reportedly been less than stellar, especially compared to McDermotts. His heart is there though, so he'll fight hard, but I expect McDermott to sweep rounds 8/9/10/11 and 12 on the scorecards, and definitely win a share of the first 7.
