Anyone remember Jon Penn

Here's the guy.

When I was about 19 and in my uni holidays I went back to the Wakefield area and worked as a lifeguard. "The Pitbull" worked as a lifeguard, doorman and by all accounts was a reasonable pro. He also came across as a great guy; bit potty, obviously hard as nails, but with no sort of attitude. I never saw him fight, but I'm interested to know from anyone who did and who might know if he's still involved in the sport in any way these days. As someone who loves the sport but has never been involved (e.g fought etc...) I'm always fascinated by these guys as people, whether they were great, good, average or poor...

I was at that Dann fight, Scott went in with a 100% record and got banged out.
Oddly, Jon, who tended to cut, never won another fight.
Always exciting though, just six of his twenty fights going the distance.

Bugger - I'm rattling on about uni whilst outing myself as a total idiot, aren't I?!? Although funnily enough, I think that Jon was trained by Howard Rainey at the same time as he was handling Clinton Woods. I fully expect to stand corrected on this one as well though!!!

I'm a bit late to the thread, so apologies.

I'm a friend of Jon's, though I havent seen him for a few years. We went to the same school (Hemsworth High) and used to work at the same place in Wombwell, Barnsley in the late 90's. During that time he fought world-rated fighters Howard Eastman and Mario Veit, and I used to supply him with fight videos so he could study his upcoming opponents.

Despite being a vicious bloke in the ring, I can assure you he was the exact opposite outside of it. He liked a laugh and a joke and was easy to approach and talk to.

A couple of years ago he called at my parents house to pick up some videos of his early fights which I had stored there, but sadly I haven't heard from him since.

Hope he's ok.

I'm sort of vaguely honoured that a pretty old thread of mine has been resurrected. The fact that what I referred to was about 10 years ago makes me feel bloody old though!
Nice to know that he's doing alright - top fella!

hes a good friend of mine and dunnys (Peter Dunn) from my neck of the woods (Pontefract) he had a spell playing rugby league for our local amatuer club, if im being honest he started out very novicy, but a few games later he really turned out to be a very competent player, obviously a hard man on the pitch as he was in the ring, but a great lad off it. he has time for everybody. havnt seen him on the doors for a while think hes settled down now.
