Pirog, Barker, Geale......all mooted opponents for Macklin but all the fights fell through....I just want to see him in the ring soon. All this time out of the ring can't be good. I like to see him fighting regularly and I think he performs better when he is.

He's all over the place.
He needs to sit down, decide who is his Manager, who he wants to be Promoted by, and where he intends to train and by whom - and stick to it.
Godd fighter is Macklin, but it cannot be good for anyone's career with all this lack of certainty behind the scenes.

yup, I haven't felt confident about Matthew's career outside the ring for a while now, on a few different levels there are grounds for concern IMO

isn't he still managed by peters? he should have satyed with hatton promotions and joe gallagher IMO he's basiclly wasted 8 months in his career.

Yeah. After the EBU title fight Hatton let Macklin fight for Peters in Ireland. I'm not sure Peters was keen for him to fight Pirog though and with him joining up with Roach that fell through.
I heard his deal with Hatton might be finished now, I know GB are thinking of him as an opponent for Jacobs provided he beats Pirog next month.

Still managed by Peters, was offered fight on July 31 at Mandalay Bay, originally against Winky Wright, but Wright wanted $1million. He's a free agent, haaving bought himself out of his deal with the Hattons, and is trained by Freddie Roach, but both Top Rank and Golden Boy have made him offers. Can't see how staying with the Hattons will have been such a hot idea.

well they must not want him badly enough mate...macklin has had about 4 months to find a promoter..i can only imagine top rank and gb hav not made him offers or he would have bit there hands off. :OhYes: needs to nail down a promoter quick and get big fights..

The key is to get the right fight, not just to fight.
The winner of Jacobs-Pirog is an obvious one that Golden Boy could deliver, if Jacobs wins. But he's top 10 of all 4 bodies and with Pavlik out of the way I'm sure an opportunity will come.

do you know if he turned it down or not? would make sense for him to sign with gb so he would be on all the uk cards with khan

I think he got offered a fight on the July 31 undercard, he didn't want to commit to a long contract without the guarantee of a big fight. Winky Wright wanted too much money, then there was talk of Sergio Mora, but that fell through
