I see Fightnews are reporting that Morales will fight Scot Willie Limond on September 11 in Mexico. Definite winnable fight for Limond after Morales showing in his first fight back a few months back. Even with Morales way past his best would be a great win in Mexico for Willie if he can pull it off. Big jump in weight for him as the fight will be at the Welterweight limit though.

Limond has been really inactive of late and he's been unlucky with no opportunities coming his way. the WBU belt has done nothing for him but if he can get this fight it would be a great oppirtunity for him.
Obviously the Morales fight think he's a very beatable opponent but Limond could have a chance because Morales doesnt have much left in the tank and could be there for the taking,

Glasgow's Willie Limond looks to emulate John H. Stracey when takes on a faded boxing legend in Mexico on September 11. Back in 1975 in a Mexico City bullring, Stracey climbed off the floor and hammered weary welterweight great Jose Napoles to a standstill in six rounds. Now it is Limond's turn as he faces former perennial world champion Erik "El Terrible" Morales in Tijuana in a welterweight 12-rounder that surprised everyone when it was announced a couple of months ago, but Limond, who gave light-welterweight star Amir Khan arguably his toughest fight to date, will fancy his chances of an upset.
The gritty and clever-boxing Scot was stopped in eight bloody rounds by Khan on a sweltering night in London in July 2007 but had Khan on the deck and has gone unbeaten in five fights since as Morales languished in retirement and ate his way through the divisions. A former world champion at super-bantamweight, featherweight and super-featherweight, Morales launched his comeback at 10st 7lbs earlier this year with a 12-round decision over somebody called Jose Alfaro in Monterrey but is not a true welterweight and not a true 33-year-old either, from a boxing perspective.
Morales is an old, old fighter who looked finished when he retired in 2007 after a run of four defeats. This is a man who went to war time and time again with men of the frightening calibre of Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera, who has 55 fights on his card, compared to Limond's 35, who has money and fights because he is bored, and who smacks of Barrera against the much fresher Khan last year in Manchester.
Home advantage for Morales makes this an altogether tougher proposition for Limond, who has never fought outside Britain and is not a big banger, but you do wonder how much Erik can offer. It all makes for fascinating-looking encounter.

When I first saw that the fight when I read in Boxing News, I thought hmm!! sounds interesting I think Limond will take Morales a few rounds as he has not got enough dig in his punches to take Morales out, but I think Morales will take it on a late stoppage win or points as I still feel he has go enough to defeat Limond.

I think I'd throw up if I saw Morales struggle with Limond. El Terrible used to be my favourite fighter and Id hate to see him struggle with the likes of Lomond who he would have marmalised in his prime, even given the weight disparity

I'd say the Prescott fight was harder for Khan in my opinion

No arguments, because a quick knockout like that, ala Christie-Seys, can take something out of a fighter. However, Limond took Khan to the well in one of those draining fights. The Scot was tagging Khan with right hands from the start of their min-epic, and ultimately put him down with a series of rights in the sixth round. Khan gets up at about eight, then drops down again, and should have been counted out, argues Limond. I'm not sure what the rule is about this. Khan was in desperate trouble throughout the sixth. It was the first time I had seen Khan so obviously vulnerable, although he came back magnificently a round later.

I am no fan of Morales, after his disgraceful behaviour against Fernando Velardez, but 18 wins in 21 world title fights speaks for itself.

bennie, was that the guy who beat his brother, and then knocked him out in a total mismatch and had his photo taken next to him whilst he was still down?
Morales is curious. In some ways I am a huge fan -as brave and tough as they come (everything I was not when I was sparring/keeping fit), and was the last man to (officially) to beat Manny Pacquaio.I also heard good stories of him lending his opponent (guty espadadas) his car, and picking up journalists from the airport, but then the flip side is the sotry above and the petulance he showed when flicking water over marco antonio barrera after their 3rd fight.

He helped Eddie Croft out too, not as much as the WBC did by sanctioning their charity exhibition as a voluntary defence but hey ho.

Yeah, he posed blatantly for the cameras with Velardez right next to him on the canvas being treated by the doctor. These Tijuana boys are a funny breed. Margarito is also from Tijuana.
