His two bouts with Calvin "Silky" Grove for world's funniest haircut were both quite good.
Paez was quite a character. Came from a circus family and knew how to entertain. One time at a press conference he called out Tyson. Another time at a weigh in he dropped his towel and asked for women. Stayed in the game too long.

Flashy boxer, not the greatest talent, but always a solid test at featherweight. Got obliterated by DLH and should have called it quits soon after. Just like Pazienza, the higher weights divisions didn't suit him too well.

Yeah, he was a fine featherweight but could not bring his ability and power to the higher weights. He crammed in a lot at nine stone, though, making seven or eight colourful defences.

The Dorsey fights were very good, though paez should have lost.

Wasn't it Paez that once pulled an opponent's trunks down during a clinch?

I think it was Bazooka Limon that did it to Sharmba Mitchell.

..paez was something of a clown, but when he was good he was pretty damn good. I was impressed by his strength in his lower weight...could push his guy all over the place. during one of his best performances - - i forget which one---the announcer gave his record..which had some losses, and my wife said, "I'd sure like to see the guys who beat him.!"

Hmmm, you're probably right
I know Jeff Fenech mentioned wanting to fight Paez many years ago. Not because he thought it'd make for a great fight, Fenech just wanted to knock his head off coz he couldn't stand him

Paez had a shout with Fenech in 1988 or 1989 when Fenech's hands were at their worst.

I remember Paez punching with two hands quite a few times.
Like throwing a double hook, which is why it puzzles me why Pacquiao got warned for it.

paez was very very strong and made a good bout. he was a real showman and he wore the heaviest, sequinned shorts; apparently his shorts weighed a couple of stone. he was very game and was near the top of the pile for a couple of years. he wasn't an elite boxer but did very well with what he had (strong and heavy handed with stamina and bravery). a good fighter to watch who could draw a crowd.

Paez vs Calvin Grove I was a good bout. I'm pretty sure it was the last championship bout scheduled for 15 rounds before 12 rounds became the standard distance.

Because it is against the rules to cuff your opponent on either side of the head in a "smashing" motion. Sam Peter got warned for it against James Toney in their first fight as well.

I saw a handful of Paez bouts and thought he was an interesting fighter since he appeared to work through a lack of athletic gifts and punching power to confuse, distract, out-hustle and outscore some pretty talented fighters who probably had a clear edge in "talent". The first fight against Calvin Grove from the bullring in Mexicali was an incredible spectacle that still stands out in my memory as one of the most dramatic come-from-behind wins of all-time. The poster who noted his weight was an issue was spot on. It appeared watching Paez that he spent most of his time fighting to make weight against himself. He was very relaxed and comfortable in the ring and burned through rounds without taking many solid shots until he moved up in weight.
