So, Where is David Haye?

So, where is David Haye?

If you're reading this then you are not alone in wondering where the hard hitting, brash talking, WBA Heavyweight Champion has disappeared to.

This is the man that chased a Klitschko up an elevator in '08 and threw down the challenge, "Once you've finished fighting these bums - fight me" at a bewildered Wladimir Klitschko.

Then, after Haye gatecrashed the Heavyweight scene after his sparkling successes at Cruiserweight, the fight was on. Press conferences where Haye insulted the family Klitschko with those infamous t-shirts of the brothers grim beheaded were on parade. But the fight didn't happen, Haye pulled out due to an injury, though most suspect it was because he wouldn't actually get paid. The TV company backing him went bust in the UK. Fight for free? I wouldn't. Honestly, would you?

So, the huge fight at Heavyweight was gone for now. Wladimir Klitschko got on with his usual business and jabbed the death out of the best Heavyweight the once great United States of America had to offer, little Eddie Chambers. Was it exciting....Nope, Was it effective.... Yep!

Haye, once recovered from the back injury and the demise of TV channel Setanta, went after the other brother, the more sturdy but older Vitali Klitschko. Once again the fight contract on offer was appalling but there was another option for Haye, the giant Nikolai Valuev with his shiny WBA strap was offered via Don King and Sauerland Promotions. Haye took the fight and won, but it must make you wonder just how bad the Klitschko offer was for Haye to sign away his next THREE fights to Sauerland and legendary promoter Don King.

Ok, so I'm telling you things you already know. Let's fast forward to the here and now.

Where has he gone? you ask. Why is he so quiet? The man that was brash and talked trash. The Cruiserweight King that chased the Klitschko's 'til they knew his name.

Well, he KO'd his mandatory John Ruiz. He had to the WBA had said, and so 'The Hayemaker' obliged. One 'Quiet Man' sent to retirement. Haye then took a month off but left his trainer/manager to deal with negotiations for his next fight. Six interested parties wanted to fight Haye, but wait, it's more than that. Roll call for the ones involved, Klitschko brothers, Thomas Adamek, Nikolai Valuev, Audley Harrison, Shannon Briggs, Hasim Rahman and James Toney.

Haye is normally at the heart of negotiations, but due to his wife giving birth and becoming very ill, David had more important things on his mind than fighting. Fair play to the man, he put the real important things in life first. Some on internet boxing forums claimed foolishly that he was scared, while the pro Haye fans ducked their heads waiting for the man to speak, as he had done so often in the past.

So has he spoken? Yes the family is all doing well, and now Haye has spoken out. Tell us you're not fighting Audley Harrison, David?

"I haven't talked to Audley's team, to be honest. I've read it in numerous newspapers but I don't take any notice of that. I looked on one of the boxing websites the other day and they even had a date for the fight. That made me laugh. At the moment, we're talking to the Klitschkos, trying to make that deal."

Haye continued, "Audley's just trying to get some headlines. If, by some miracle, I ended up in the same ring as him, I think everybody with half a brain cell would know what the result would be. I would go out there and mince him."

But since then the IBF have imposed their deadline on Wladimir Klitschko who now faces his mandatory challenger, Alexander Povetkin. Russia's Povetkin has been mandatory for TWO years but is finally ready, according to Teddy Atlas his trainer.

Altogether a good article but I would be shocked if Haye fought Vitali next.

I really do not see what the problem is - David Haye will let us know when his next fight is - and until he does we should celebrate that we have the World Heavyweight Champion that comes from our country and that he has livened up an otherwise dull division.

Stop moaning and be patient!!! :TU: :TU:

I'm not moaning. I am so Pro Haye that he could over take my favourite Lennox.

Let's not be naive and 'stick heads in sand' The guy is getting slaughtered on boxing sites by fans cos it seems he is not going to fight the Klitschko's next. Possibiliy if it being Vitali but that's a slim possibility.

If the next fight is Audley and we all waited 6 months to see that fight then I for one can't justify it. Vitali Klitschko at his old age is fighting more regular -that's a fact. Haye has the WBA belt but as a fan I want to see him fight. I don't think that is much to ask, regardless of what country he's representing.

David Haye does not give a flying f*ck whether he is getting slaughtered on websites or not - I remember in the ESB days I knew that he used to come on there - So I thought I would attempt to rip into him by asking him some questions - not only did David Haye take the p*ss back he also put the interview/questions up on his myspace page.

Team Haye no matter what the consequences will always do things their way - they know they will take sh*t and criticisms on the way and they do not give a toss.

As for David Haye - he is a top man - he bothers about other people around him before he thinks for himself and his attitude is all news is goods news - so criticisms here and there are really not going to phase him.

Think about it - after fights like the Lolenga Mock fight not one single boxing fan gave him a chance of being the Heavyweight Champion of the world - he is and has got a fair few quid in the bank - and whats more Team Haye have done it by their rules and their way.

Shame that.

It would be nice if Haye cared about his fans - you know all the ones who came to his fights and paid for the Sky Box Office

(including me - I paid for my setanta Sunscription to watch haye V Maccarnelli - The London V Swansea war - and I paid box office for Valuev - and I went out both nights and watched his fights with Monte Barret and Valeuv )

It would be nice if Haye - actaully took in the abuse he is now getting - some from big Haye fans who now have grown tired with his stalling to fight the Klitsckos.

Fans are turning off David Haye in droves - its true - I hear it all the time ..............I use to be a huge David Haye fan but now.....................

Haye and Booth ignore the forum / arm chair fans - but Haye is now in the business of selling his fights on TV for £14.95 per pop - he would be wise to take heed of what the fans expect of him.

I'm not a Haye "fan" as such - but I always make sure I see him fight live - as he is a exciting fighter and very heavy handed.

The Haye V Maccarenelli fight build up was great - really enjoyed that -

I heard a rumour in the build up from a guy I know who knows people around Maccarenelli and apparantly someone near around the Maccarenelli camp said he had no chance against David Haye because he had a glass chin

But Enzo Calzaghe built up Enzos confidence at the weigh in by reassuring him he had won the stare down.

But even before then I always enjoyed watching Haye - I really liked the Carl Thompson fight where haye came in all flash with trashy Jodie Marsh carrying his flag into the ring - and then he got hammered.

But also his other early fights on Sky - espcailly Froggemeni and Mormeck (setanta)

Haye is a very exciting fighter - even if I dont really support him.

err thompson got hammered not haye, haye gassed and was stopped on his feet.

thomspon was getting a beating and took much more punishment than haye over the whole fight, it was nearly stopped in the 2nd.

you talk crap.

In the office where I work, there's a few guys who drift in/out of boxing depending on boxers who "cross-over" into the mainstream. They're currently fans of David Haye, without really being fans of the sport week in/week out. All they know about Valuev is what they saw during the build up, and during the fight itself. Probably ditto for the Ruiz defence. They find Haye to be entertaining, and worth watching.

They'll tune in next time he fights, without really bothering about the kind of debates that anoraks seem to be working themself into a frenzy about.

Their £15 is just as good as an anorak's £15, and I think everytime Haye fights, given the kind of build up he creates, the hype etc, I'm sure he picks up more fans, overall, than he loses. If some hardcore fans want to get all upset because there's no news at the moment, or because of mooted fights against people other than Vitali or Wlad, so be it. Haye's fans aren't cutting their wrists over it, Haye himself won't care, and the sports media in general know that boxing is a strange sport, where the most obvious match ups often don't happen. Haye's current reign as WBA heavyweight champion has got a lot of publicity for him and the sport, from the mainstream media.

Like it or not, Haye holds a major heavyweight title belt. He has cross-over appeal and he'll pick up fans as he goes along.

It seems that some haters are going potty over what really is a storm in a tea cup, when you look at the big picture :)

The lads I work with all think Haye is ducking the Klitschkos. They are not major boxing fans but they know enough about Hayes antics "im going to knock out the boring robots" and his subsequent refusal to fight Wlad. This is a common view. Haye is becoming known as a ducker all over the world im afraid. I don't think you will accept that, as you have shown a lack of intelligence and a serious bias in this thread, but it's true. A fight against Harrison would cement his ducking status.

You make good points that illustrate why Haye probably doesn't give a flying eff what people on here say about him. The Klitschko's have the same cross over appeal and have been beating top opposition for the last couple of years. It is possible to be a star and fight top opposition at the same time. Haye's team has not even come out with the details of the financial disagreements and they have not responded to Shelly Finkel's statement that suggested Team Haye would not accept a 50/50 split of the PPV money.

If Haye was really so eager to fight a Klitschko right now, you think he would at least come out with a statment or some specifics of why the fight is not happening. He spent so much time chasing them around and now he won't go near them. I just hope that Haye fights another time this year against a top 10/12 opponent, I doubt he will fight either Klitschko anytime soon.

The problem i find as a boxing fan is that i thoroughly believe that the HW division and the sport as a whole needs a Haye v Klit fight to happen and it doesnt seem to be materialising.

Hayes reputation is going down the toilet and his silence isnt helping - that being said if one of the fights does happen then nobody will care about whats being said about Haye right now.

This statement sums up everything i hate about boxing forums

Haye cleans up at cruiser, beats a top 15 fighter, takes a world title from a 7ft, 300 pound bloke, full-fills his mandatory and he reputation goes down the toilet?
