Off topic, but still more 'British & Irish' than 'Other Sports.'

I'm moving to Liverpool in September for Uni. I'm from Manchester so I'm assuming it will be a fun relocation, especially when I have to talk out loud in front of a load of Scouse lads in a Wetherspoons or something

Anyway, I know there are a few Scousers on here so I'd like to know about the city, where to eat, drink, what sights to see, where to avoid etc?

I did the same three years ago. You'll figure out most of the places to go/avoid on your first couple of nights there

Believe me mate, accents mean nothing to the people of Liverpool nowadays. We hear accents from all over the Northwest nowadays, with Liverpool being a strong student city, and cant make one out from the other anymore. I think its with hearing the Scouse accent nowadays every other accent is just lumped together and referred to as 'wool'. Thats the way its gone now, cant really distinguish Burnley from Manchester or Bolton from Blackburn, they're all the same.

As for places to go the City Centre is virtually the only place to inhabit. But there are a few nice places to have a scran and that if you're willing to venture outside of the City Centre. Lark Lane in Aigburth has started to thrive in recent years and has a whole host of fine places for a scran and a bevvie if you ever want a change from the City Centre.

What is the Cavern Quarter like? I had a brief look around there when I went for my Uni open day. I'm not a Beatles fan or anything but it just looked like it had a good atmosphere and could be okay for a few beers. Or is it a bit of a cliche tourist place?

It's a decent city.

Places to go? That offy that Kevo was on about yesterday.

Places to avoid? The escalators at Central Station when drunk( http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=122594 )

My mate went to Liverpool for university years ago - ended up living in a ground floor flat in the L7 area (kensington?): all his windows had steel bars in them to protect from break in - it still didnt stop the scallies trying though!

Mate! You'll have a great time going to uni here. The accent won't matter when yer out, it's as safe as you want it to be (i.e. you look for a fight, you'll get one). The atmosphere is great, you'll love it.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

Mate there are no scouse students.... LOL, You gotta be 1 of 2 things in Liverpool,You either Know how to fight or know how to tell a good joke, Just learn 1 of them..

Student bars - Barbar, Lago & Heebie jeebies is were I think are the student hotspots.. The cream on wednesdays too, It's called medication..

Liverpool is like any other town there is good and bad in every area although 99% is very friendly, I know you'll enjoy it... Good luck

Hey, let's not go crazy here.

Liverpool One has some good stuff going on, pretty swanky though if you're just after getting leathered on cheap booze....student style.

Tbh there are plenty of great pubs, my advice is to try them all out :)

My sister is at uni there mate so PM me if want any pointers on that scene.......

My uni days are well behind me, sadly!

PS Agree about Concert Square....shite.

Concert Square is overrated after a few trips in, but is still a good night.

Personally, I always make sure I end up going the Circus/Chibuku events.

PPS Has anyone been to "The Crazy House" ?

Few good pubs around that area, decent variety....

I hate Concert Square with a passion. Wood Street an that used to be boss in the 90's, gone totally down the nick nowadays though. It seems to be aimed at the younger clientelle and is suffering for it with some of the little rats it now attracts.

Latin American Studies. 4 year course with the 3rd year spent somewhere in South or Central America. Can't wait!

A mini bus load of us used to travel down from Manchester every week to go to cream, best club ive ever been too, not sure if it's still going now though.
