A draw seemed fair enough to me

It was close. Glencoffe Johnson started well, Clinton Woods finished well, and inbetween there were lots of quality exchanges. In Sheffield, a draw looks like Johnson was robbed. But he wasn't. It was hard to separate them.

yes close fight, i had johnson by2 points but a 2 point margin is no way a robbery if it was given to woods, hard fight to score

I didn't score the fight but although it was close I felt Johnson won by a couple of rounds. but it was no robbery.

I think the third and fourth rounds were pivotal. Johnson started like a house on fire, but Woods got back into the fight in the third and fourth. Woods also won the the seventh, when Johnson took a breather (a real old pro's trick) - and definitely won the last two rounds.
It was a desperately close fight in my opinion.

I didn't really enjoy the fight that much, thought it was a bit scrappy. I was very tired, maybe I'll give it another go.
If anything Johnson edged it although it seemed fairly close...

No, You're wrong
I dislike lewis the most!
The problem with british fighters is they promise so much and deliver so little on the big occasion!
Woods is just another case of this!
Let's look at some of the others in the past few years alone!
SCOTT HARRISON
NASEEM HAMED
ALEX ATHURS
DAVID WALKER
HOWARD EASTMAN (willam joppy)
Joe Calzaghe ( in terms of becoming superstar)
The list goes on and on!
I'm a fan of British Boxing, especially Danny williams so i gotta wonder what the problem with your fighters is?
Your boxer's have good talent and are world class but they seem to fail at the FINAL HURDLE!
My question is Why?
First and foremost I'm a Boxing fan so seeing a HONEST HARD WORKING BOXER like JOHNSON ROBBED is the thing the PISSES me off the most!

I thought Johnson did win this fight clearly, he was definately the boss for the most point and was the fighter hitting with more authority.
I didn't score the fight properly, but I think Woodhall's card sounded just about right.
Very Dissapointed with Woods last night to be honest, that was not the Woods I expected to see at all. Whether its the hand injury or not, but why didn't he try and put Johnson on the back foot.
Woods' best displays have come when he been the workhorse putting the fighter on the back foot, he did this in his great victory over Crawford Ashley and also against the huge punching Ole Klemesten. Yet Woods seemed content to try and win the fight with a few sweet counters on the back foot. We're was the agression.
He might well have blown his chance for a geniune world title now, because god knows whats happening with the IBF. Maybe he should try getting into a WBA title fight (cause Branco is probably the poorest champion). What ever, he's got to fight to his strength which are being agressive - that why the American's were taken by his display with Jones. He hasn't got world class handspeed or boxing skills, what he has relied upon in the past is stamina, workrate and agression, thats what got him the victories at world level in the past.
Johnson for me was a lot better than I expected immediately you could see how strong he was. Both fighters were successful Super Middleweights, but Johnson was certainly the harder hitter and generally stronger guy. His jabs seem to temporarily hurt Woods, and I think given the preparation time he had for this contest he can BEAT most Light Heavies (Tarver included).
What Woods done in the 12th was excellent, but why didn't he fight like that earlier. Why couldn't he be the agressor more often, where was the tremendous workrate of previous fights. Woods can beat Johnson if he fights like he did against Ashley and Klemensten. He's lucky that he might get a second crack at it.
I still think Woods can beat Tarver, so can Johnson though.

Two of the three judges were American (one of whom voted for Woods). And even Johnson's corner told him he needed the last two rounds "Big!".
But he lost those last two rounds.

Scoring is subjective. You think Johnson won (and to be fair, I haven't heard anyone say they thought Woods won). But it WAS a close fight. Johnson's shots were more eyecatching than the unspectacular counters of Woods, but all shots score.
And, I repeat, two of the judges were American.
PS: Please don't get me started on some of the verdicts we see in the States...

I had it 115-115; there were some extremely close rounds, but if anyone deserved to win it was Johnson. More aggressive throughout. He was in no way robbed though.

I 'm British but call the fights how I see them irrespective of fighters nationality..... theres no way Johnson didn't win that fight on Friday. True judging boxing is a subjective buissness but the fact is Johnson landed the more punches, the better punches, (those big punches of Woods in the last were too little too late) and he was the aggressor... dominating the fight. Johnson outclassed Woods in the first 6 rounds and although Woods had some good moments later in the fight no way did he deserve a draw... let alone a win!. I had Johnson winning by 4 rounds and felt sick for the lad, he was so obviously heart-broken where as Woods had an air of almost embarressment as he knew he'd got off lightly.
Incidentially to add to the bad taste in my mouth was the fact that the fights promoter Dennis Hobson was in Woods corner!. This is not right.... imagine the huhar if Don King was in the corner of a fight with such a controversial ending.
As for the Brody vs Chi match ....it was a much closer fight but again I think Brody was lucky to get the draw I had Chi the winner by 2 rounds.
Shenanigans like this demean boxing and rob honest fighters like Johnson and Chi.... if fights are to be decided by who promotes and manages who rather than what goes on in the ring then boxing is really only a shrt step away from Wreastling.
As Boxing fans we should protest against such robberies for the good of the sport.

I went to the fight.
Johnson won clearly, but was below his best.
I dont know why we expect so much from Woods. At best he's an above average 10 round fighter.
I spoke to Johnson after the fight and told him i felt he won clearly, which he appreciated. But he said we are killing each other all over the world, so he expects a bad decision whenever a fight goes the distance.
I felt sorry for the guy, but we shouldnt blame the judges.
I spoke to both American jusges who knew their boxing and were very competent.
The guy who voted for Johnson, is steeped in historical boxing knowledge and a true boxing fan
Johnson wins the rematch

I was very interested in watching one of the IBF judges (think it was the american, wasn't Foster) who was perched at ringside. He took an absolute eternity to hand his scorecard to Ian John-Lewis at the end of some rounds.
Bennie and the rest, am I right in saying that the only thing a judge has to fill in on a scorecard is his score for the round right? ie 10-9, 9-10, 10- etc. If that is the case then God knows what this judge was doing. He appeared to be writing something on the scorecard. He took so long at the end of the second round that John-Lewis got agitated leaning over the ropes waiting for him and shouted "Come on!" as we were nearing the 10 second countdown before round 3 started.
Baffling behaviour, and people around me were shaking their heads in confusion and disbelief at just what was taking him so long.

Intriguing post. I wonder if he was wrtiting on the card WHY he was scoring a round in a particular fighter's behaviour, like a complete brown nose. But it is baffling.
