It was McCallum by a nose when I scored it a few years ago.

Grainy footage or not James Toney was a mean fighter.

I had Toney up, thought I am a massive Toney fan. Great fight though and really close and difficult to score.

I had it a draw. Thought the decision rendered was very fair. Toney really saved his a## in that final round.

I have always, just, scored it to McCallum. for me there were too many rounds in which Toney didn't do quite enough- although he won the rounds he won more emphatically, a couple of them very emphatically.
Interestingly enough, Toney credits McCallum with being the most skillful fighter he ever fought, in the same interview saying 'I learned to box the first time I fought Mike McCallum'
McCallum gives an object lesson in the pacing of rounds and the pacing of a fight. plus, one on how to win rounds without much more than a jab. Toney's counterpunching shut down a lot of McCallum's offence- he didn't throw many shots to the body, unusually, because Toney was hitting him with big counters. he'd throw the odd right hand downstairs when he got an angle off to Toney's left, but mostly it was jab-double-jab-triple-jab. genius, in many ways.
