Briggs taken to hospital-concussion suspected

Danny Green has just given a press conference. Said that after the fight Paul Briggs was taken to hospital and it is believed that he suffered concussion in the fight.

Seems that the blow was harder than it looked.

If that was a legitimate KO (and I don't believe it was), then Briggs health problems are far worse than anyone previously imagined. There is no way a jab like that should lay out a fighter for the count, and Briggs has shown in the past that he can take a good shot.

I have also heard that in the days leading up to the fight hundreds of thousands of dollars were placed on a first round KO occuring. Someone mentioned that Betfair actually had a first round KO at evens. If this was a legitimate KO and Briggs did not take a dive, those betting patterns seem very odd.

Kind of sad that no-one who has commented really gives a fornicate about briggs' health there is obviously something majorly wrong if that punch puts him out and by all accounts he was genuinley out. Yous should really take a hard look at yourselves because you dont seem flying fornicate about this blokes life and care more about your 50 bucks.

Apparently Bookies have been taken for up to $1 mil in total over this. That doesn't really upset me, but the reason behind it does.

I have said some where, either here or on budweiser, that I hope he did through it or he'll be in serious trouble if he ever accidentally bangs his head.

To be fair P4P alot of us did suggest that this fight was a bad idea weeks ago. There was a lot of concern for Briggs then. Then again at the weigh in thread and the thread when we discuss the fact the NSW had revoked the santion to host the fight.

Alot has been said re the health and mind set of Briggs.

Mate I posted that I have concerns or briggsy after this. Not only physically but mentally.
I had good seats and whilst it appeared a jab landed, Briggsy made little effort to get up. The way he went down was like he had been hit was a big shot, not a jab.
Besides this controversial finish, it was a great night.

The whole thing was a farce from the very beginning and should never have happened. Briggs should never have been in that ring and the WA boxing authorities should go fukk themselves. They're here to stop this sort of garbage, not condone and authorise it

Wild Wild West Commission is clearly not qualified to control anything.

sorry if it seemed like i was having a go at you guys the people in the boxing community actually understand how dangerous the sport is and when someone goes down like that its not because of that shot but because of existing problems.

being in w.a. all i have heard all day was dickheads who dont really know what is going on talk shit about it, and dont seem to care about the safety or realise how dangerous this sport is, the media here is really making tools of themselves and really showing their lack of knowledge about this sport

This is very concerning:
Staggering truth: cash-strapped Briggs was not fit to fight
JAMIE PANDARAM
July 23, 2010

SO SEVERE were Paul Briggs's neurological problems in the weeks leading up to his fight against Danny Green that he was forgetting at which gymnasium he was training and mistaking strangers' cars for his own. His conditioning was so poor that he took one body shot in sparring and vomited.

Briggs's woeful 29-second performance on Wednesday night was not of a man taking a dive, but one who was so desperate for his $200,000 purse he was willing to risk his life in the ring. Briggs, his people, and much of boxing's circle knew the reality of the situation. This was going to be a farce.

But nobody could talk Briggs out of the fight. He was so reliant on the money he went in with a plan of trying to knock out Green with one quick shot, and should he take a punch, give up.

He completely lost his bearings after Green landed a probing left jab to the top of his skull – a punch that would not have moved a half-fit boxer – and Briggs said later he was trying to get up, but his body could not respond.

In the dressing room after the fight, Briggs had a conversation with a close friend and later asked those around him who he had just been speaking to, such was his delirium.

This is why Briggs should never have returned to the ring, why the Western Australian Professional Combat Sports Commission should never have sanctioned it when their NSW counterparts refused to, and why the International Boxing Organisation should have rejected any notion of Briggs fighting for one of their titles. A source close to Briggs said yesterday he was "battling".

This article is very believable. If this is fact and people close to the fight including trainers, promoters etc were aware then this is criminal!! Not only to all the paying punters out there but also to Paul. To allow him to enter a boxing ring in this state is totally piss poor. Further to that why hasnt the NSW combat sports auth come out and stated why they would not sanction the bout. All I recall hearing was a rumour had circulated and they based their decision on that rumour.
Obviously my above comments are based IF the article written is correct ??

how does a bloke that has been out for over 3 years get title fight , be it a nothing title, sanctioned. he was also refused permission to fight by one state commision, this fight stinks of a fix, gullible people will think different, green ranted and raved after the farce , it wasn,t convincing.there was a huge collect after the jones fight, different ship this time same crew. i didn,t see briggs hit his head on the canvas, so i don,t know how he got concussion, he just didn,t know how to take a dive, then again green is supposed to be a heavy wacker, until he fights a credible opponent, and don,t cop that rubbish he can,t get anybody to come down here, have gloves will travel, he should walk not talk, he knows where the suckers are, but he has lost me,i enjoyed the rest of the program, green and mundine are a good double, all the best

Some of the Kiwi gigs and "meat packing" over to Oz by well renowned meat packers (there was one on this card too) have been rather bad but this gig takes the cake.....

Hope Briggs comes out with a full recovery. Its one thing getting knocked out on the national/international stage but getting boo'd, things chucked at ya, insults and then have your opponent talk to you like your a boy calling you a canine is a bit harsh. I even heard Briggs has a family hopefully his sons/daughters dont get hassled.

I feel sorry for Briggs you know hes a fighter and like all boxers/fighters they'll back themselves against almost anyone. Confidence is a big part of boxing cos your own your own and Briggs is no different, he would have backed himself to beat Green.

However if it is proven this was all a scam disregard this post.

NSW simply declined to renew Briggs' registration on medical grounds. Such matter is confidential & Authority is/was not in position to reveal medical condition to general public, but it did to WA Commission as requested. It was then up to it to decide if it'll register him or not.
Registration is now valid for 12 months & it's up to WA Commission to decide whether it'll let him fight during this period or suspend him.

State regulators, for legal reasons, do not approve/disapprove matchups, but it can impose restrictions & suspensions on its registered combatants.

First big question is why was Paul so desperate for the payday to risk his physical and mental health by getting back in the ring.

Second question is that alarm bells should have been ringing out loud, when his physical and mental state was noticed at training, in the lead up and at the weigh-in, as the newspaper article states he was in a confused mess. Why did no one do anything to tap Briggs on the shoulder to withdraw but let him proceed on so that the spivs betting on his demise were able to line their pockets and allow Briggs' reputation to be torn to shreds.

Third question is all about duty of care. Was the WA Commission blinded by the local hero Green's halo so that they couldn't see the potential train wreck that was coming? Why weren't Green and Co informed by someone that something was astray with Briggs and that Green Promotions would end up looking like money-grabbers with the PPV and gate paying public left spewing.

Green Machine Promotions was well aware of Briggs' condition

What "condition" is that Anton?

one minute his team is saying that he is naturally fit everyday and retired because of personal reasons and green is in trouble.

then we are told he was so unfit he was able to remember what gym he was going to blah blah blah. Surely his team would have noticed that pulled out.

All the betting money and the footage I saw tells me that the fight was a farce and Briggs always intended on going down on the 1st.
