David Haye V Odlanier Solis - WBA Heavyweight Title Fight

If this fight gets made anytime soon - who do you go for ?

Haye is the former European / WBC / WBA / WBO Crusierweight Champion and the current WBA Heavyweight Champion.

Impressive stuff from Haye - a very successful pro career so far.

Solis is behind in terms of pro achievements - but he beat Haye as a amateur - and is catching up fast as a pro with 16 fights unbeaten with 12 knockouts with good skills and a good chin and is rising in the heavyweight rankings.

It looks like Haye dont want to know the Klitschko brothers - so alternative fights have to be considered.

This is one of the more interesting ones - Haye might pluck up the courage to take this fight in a attempt to revenge the amateur loss - the smae way he did with Frogemenei - but remeber he nearly came unstuck down at crusierweight against Frogemenei - this is up at heavyweight against a fighter I wager is better than Frogemenei.................

So who you got ???

I think haye's movement and ring usage combined with speed would win against solis.

Solis has good hand speed, skill and punch power but he's fat and moves around the ring at snails pace.

Although Solis stopped Haye relatively convincingly in the amateurs, you would have to favor Haye in a professional encounter. Solis doesn't seem to be taking his professional career seriously. In an era of overweight heavyweight contenders, he is the fattest of them all. That is really saying something when Chris Arreola is around.

Solis has fought pretty weak opposition, so it is difficult to say how good he really is. I suspect he would be competitive for a while, but would end up losing quite clearly. If Solis was very motivated and got himself into shape (230's) his chances would definitely be higher.

I would say Solis stopping Haye 'relatively convincingly' is a very misleading quote, tbh.

Haye was beaten and beaten fairly, this was more due to fatigue, his stamina let him down and Solis took full advantage of it.

What it showed was that Solis possesed stamina, decent speed, good technique and decent power. Haye matched him in all departments, displaying more speed and definately more power.

As they stand now, you have to say Haye certainly shown more improvement, with his power growing with him. Remember he was a skinny eighteen year old back then and even then he pratically decapitated Solis with 1 punch. The guy short-circuited standing up.

I think Haye holds all the aces here, but only here.

Wlad or Vitali and even Adamek would present totally different propositions and would be extremely tough to beat.

You do know Solis is only six months older than Haye? Solis continued to mature as well, and eventually had to move up in weight as an amateur (and this was before he was fat).

I would say it was relatively convincing. After the first round it was a very one-sided fight and had to be stopped because Haye was not fighting back. Ok, maybe it was because he gassed, but that doesn't mean the win for Solis was any less emphatic. Haye pounded Ruiz because he is much faster, Mayweather outclassed Hatton because he is much more skilled, and Solis stopped Haye because he was in much better condition at the time. People continually cite Haye's stamina as the reason he lost, almost if they are trying to use it as an excuse or somehow take away from the legitimacy of Solis' win.

As for Solis short circuiting. Yes he was hurt, but he didn't go down and many fighters who have actually been dropped in the amateurs have gotten up to win. He was only given eight seconds to recover, so it's not like they stopped the action and restarted when he decided he was fit to continue. In a professional fight, Solis would have gotten an eight second break by clinching.

Anyways, as I stated in my first post, the amateur meeting would probably not have any reflection on a pro meeting. Haye would beat Solis. The Cuban is obviously not as passionate about professional boxing as he was for amateur boxing. He is completely out of shape and his best opponent has been Monte Barrett. With his obvious laziness and lack of quality opponents, he is not in a good position to win.

Got to agree with that. It will be a tough contest that will give Haye a chance to get his own back.

David Haye's next challenger remains pick 'em but old amateur conqueror Odlanier Solis is among those rumoured, a chubby Cuban who defected to America two years after winning gold in the 2004 Olympics and now lives and fights out of Miami, where he has cruised to 16-0 (12) as a pro.
Haye was stopped in three rounds by Solis in the heavyweight final of the world amateur championships in Belfast in 2001. The first British amateur to make it to a final of the worlds, Haye really wobbled Solis with a big right uppercut in the opening seconds but faded badly as Solis fought back with a series of quick, two-handed bursts, and the ending came as no surprise, although Haye was never off his feet. The Londoner had beaten three good men in three nights to reach the final and was also nursing a bicep injury to his left arm. He says he was "busted" before the first bell.
Nevertheless, Solis did what he had to do and looks a much better opponent for Haye than the mooted likes of Audley Harrison and Shannon Briggs. The 30-year-old Solis is skilful and hurtful and needed just two rounds to dispose of New York gatekeeper Monte Barrett last October, a man who went five with Haye, albeit five one-sided rounds. Last time out in March, Solis forced the retirement of Costa Rica's Carl Drummond in three rounds, who went double that with former WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev.
Solis, who has stopped his last six opponents, beat Felix Savon in two out of three meetings in the amateurs and his win over Haye makes him incredibly easy to sell, although he remains conspicuously quiet in the calling-out stakes and Haye is a different kettle of fish to the gangling fellow he was first time as he showed when he outscored the biggest and heaviest world heavyweight champion of all time to lift the WBA belt last year and thumped the gutsy John Ruiz in nine rounds in his first defence earlier this year, dropping Ruiz four times.
Haye, 29, has matured into a heavyweight to be feared, a better heavyweight, one suspects, than the 2010 model of Solis.

don't think barrett had a very good preparation for solis. he's shown better form when he's had time to prepare thoroughly, notably the haye fight (scoring a knockdown) and the recent war with david tua which ended in a draw.

See this is what disgusts me about heavyweight boxing.
You get one shot life (except title shots you can get many of them)to do great things and these talented fat bastards cant even get in shape when their only real chance in life is to fight

What is it with these fat pigs who cant be profesionals?

Solis should be told that If he cant get to say 235 pounds then he wont be getting paid.

For curiosity value alone I would rather see Audley in the other corner at least he gets in shape.

I'm a big fan of haye and do think that anyone he can hit he will knock out his power is immense definitely haye by stoppage against solis. Although against one of the klitchskos (that's definitely not how its spelt) I dunno if he'll be able to break down their boring, robotic, take the excitement, fun and thrill out of boxing style. I'd love to see him drop em both but will it happen? I think a fight against Audley would-be interesting all the way through the build up cos they'd sell it so well but fight night I think we'll see that haye is more than just a step above. How bout Adamek? Can't wait to see haye in action again wonder who against?

If Haye faces Solis in the pro"s, many of you would have a big big surprise. Sure Solis is lazy, but don't let his fat fool you. Just ask Barrett...it should give you a hint. Solis has destruction power and very fast hands. Also seems to have a big chin. He just fights lazy due to lack of competition. Give him someone who can make him work and you'll get fireworks.

hopefully.

regarding barrett, the american isn't a bad fighter when he's had time to prepare, scoring a knockdown vs haye before losing and dropping tua late, earning a controversial drawn in an apparently rare entertaining heavyweight bout.

vs solis, who admittedly looked great, barrett was late notice.
