Does he make it into the HOF?

If anyone who said no to Kostya says yes to Ricky....please explain yourself.
I have to say no. However I said yes to Kostya. Unless Ricky comes back and has some sort of impressive run, I can't imagine him getting in.

yes, he's a popular brit fighter. i guarantee he'll get in.

When Arturo gatti and Diego Corrales get in you can ask yourself about popularity meaning anything in the selection process. Modern writers are fans more than journalists in most cases.
I said no to Tszyu and I say no to Hatton. They will both probably make it.

Since when did popularity become the sole factor for an induction into the Hall of Fame?
Kostya Tszyu doesn't deserve to be inducted and neither does Ricky Hatton.
i agree with you but if you look at mcguigan, he got in on his popularity. his resume is really bad for the hall. i bet you can list at least 50 active fighters with a better resume than mcguigan but obviously not all of them will get in the hall.

I hate that McGuigan gets mentioned every time another fighter that has a weak resume is a possible HOF candidate. Like others have said - just because they made one mistake doesn't mean it should be repeated.
I don't think anyone in this thread is saying it should be repeated. I think most people are against fighters getting inducted simply because they were extremely popular, but that doesn't change the fact that it can happen. Hatton will get in (in my opinion), even though the opposition he beat wasn't very strong.
Saad makes a good point, modern writers are far more like fans. I was reading some articles on The Ring magazine website, and it seems they give the most praise to fighters who show heart and are involved in entertaining fights, even if they lose convincingly or beat an average opponent. This attitude seems relatively prevalent among boxing scribes, many of whom have a say on who gets into Canastota. Incidentally, the content being produced by boxing writers is at a very low point, in my opinion. There is a lot of really crappy stuff getting published.

This comes up again and again with McGuigan, but isn't one of the OTHER reasons he is in down to his work outside the ring with regards to helping others avoid his bitter experiences and setting up the PBA.

yes to Kostya and Yes to Hatton.
both dominant champions for a substantial period of time Hatton a chamion at two weights and lost only to the very best of an era in PBF and Pac.
undoubted yes in my book.

each to their own Barry.
fighters with far less impressive resumes have made it in.
Jeff fenech Brian Mitchell, Barry Mcguigan, even Ken Norton off the top of my head.

Jeff Fenech was quite deserving of his spot. I like Hatton, but Jeff was a better and more accomplished fighter. He should have been a 4 division belt holder.

First Hatton was champion from 2005 to 2007. How does that amount to a substantial amount of time?
He was briefly a paper champion at 147 in fight that in my opinion got a gift decision. He was not dominant at all at 147. In fact he ran from the 147 after a gift decision against the weakest of the paper champions. At 140 he did not even fought the best and did not even attempt to unify the titles.
He should not be inducted in the HOF.
Kostya Tszyu by far had a better career and was a champion from 1995 to 1997 when he lost. The he won again from 1997 to 2005. He was much more dominant than Hatton and fought slightly better competition. Tszyu unified all the major titles. Hatton did not that.
I would vote Tszyu in.
So Hatton a definite NO and Tszyu YES.

I hate to be a dick, but, it's to each HIS/HER own.
Secondly, like I said earlier
I don't care if mistakes have been made in the past. That doesn't mean we should continue to repeat them.
Norton is questionable for his induction. However, he beat Ali in their first fight and a lot of people [on this forum] feel he should have won their third fight. Norton also beat Quarry, Bobick, Young, and BARELY lost to a peak Holmes. I'm not sure if it's HOF worthy, but; it's impressive.
I haven't studied the 80's/90's Featherweight scene thoroughly enough to commit on Mitchell. Though I am baffled as to why McGuigan was inducted into the Hall.
Fenech doesn't have an incredible resume, however; I would say it's an impressive one.
I don't want to hear that because fighters that didn't deserve to be inducted did get inducted that Boxing should lower their standards forever.
I agree completely with that statement. Hatton does not deserve to be inducted into the HOF.

Fenech was a top fighter in the 1980s and most definitely does deserve to be in.
Lots of very good fighters on his record...
Zaragoza
Callejas
Villasana
Coffee
Downes
Richardson
Samart
Navarro
Martinez
As well as the prospect McCrory
Anyone who gets a draw with Azumah (and he deserved the nod in that one) is an all-time great.

Barry, you
ARE being a dick!
Each to their own is how we use the phrase in England, the HIS/HER variant is American. Don't correct an Englishman on his English!
I'm American and I've never heard Barry's version in my 41 years. To each their own is the statement as I know it.

Both are acceptable. I can appreciate Barry's attempt at correction as much as anyone, but you've gotta nail it if you go for it. He got this one wrong.

There are 100 worse boxers than Hatton in the Hall of Fame. Ricky ticks all the boxes and was the very best at his weight for a while. He beat some very good fighters and brought a lot of interest to the sport. If you look at those who are inducted then you'll realise there's only a few very very great boxers and loads who deserve to be recognised after their career is done. Ricky wasn't the best ever but was an absolute blessing to British boxing and a top fighter (who should've boxed Junior Witter though).

100? You have to be joking. I'd vote for McGuigan over Hatton, though it's certainly a close call.

I vote yes. Considering how high a standard many of you guys have, the IBHOF might as well only induct guys every 5 years or 10 years instead of annually.

What I love is how you only pin-pointed one section of my post and then went on this diatribe about how this forum is subpar to your desires. The BOTP section of the BoxRec forum is a great place. So, even if you think I'm a dick, that my friend, would be inductive reasoning. No need to get your "knickers in a twist" because I thought I was making a grammatical correction (when apparently I wasn't right - go me). That part had nothing to do with trying to "make you look wrong". There's no reason to bicker over little things like that. Especially since we're all strangers that most likely will never meet each other (for the most part). I love all y'all that frequent the BOTP section, even if we disagree, we still family. Anyway, I decided I'm not going to kill myself, because it turns out my girlfriend isn't too fond of that idea. Shame, right? Anyway, I don't see why Hatton should be inducted into the Hall. Sure, he had his moments in the sun, but; not A) long enough to be Hall worthy and B) not dominant enough wins - for me - to be look at as a possible inductee.
A FAMILY HUH.... WELL THEN DOES THAT MAKE YOU THE STINKING OF PISS GRANDAD IN THE CORNER? Who rants out b.s. in his senile little world according to him? I came here to discuss boxing but you decided to try and be superior, which to your chagrin you found out that you werent..anyway best not detain you too long nurse needs to change your bag.
sorry dude if you act like a prick you will get treat like one.
