How does everyone think he will do at super-feather? I certainly think he is more than capable that dethroning Sykes and is an interesting addition to the weight at domestic level.

I think with allegedly now guding his career, that he will certainly hit euro level!

He is a talented lad. I think Lindsay looked stronger than him in there fight so he will have to be stronger to go far at Super-Featherweight. I have always been a big Appelby fan and hope he can go far, I think he gives Sykes a run for his money but I would like to see him in with Morris before the Sykes fight but a few warm up fights before hand :TU:

I think the lindsay defeat wont be detrimental, although he was hurt at time of stoppage, it wasnt a total beatdown and he will hopefully learn from that. IMO, gilmour let him down that fight. He was the champion but had to defend away from home in quite a hostile venue at quite a young age.

Hayemaker made them an offer they couldn't refuse. I believe Appleby made a career high in that fight. A manager's job is also to get their man as much money as possible.

From what I recall it was a record for a british title, rumoured around the 100k mark. It was a massive investment in Lindsay.

I do remember that, I'm sure I heard somewhere that paul pocketed ~75k for that fight.

Ah the hayemaker promotions/setanta days....

Yep £75k would be a nice pick up, can't really argue with that he would struggle to earn that in any other british level fights at the weight.

I think he is young enough to come back, I was well impressed with him on the way up, great body work, nice attitude to his work, a few rough edges but a great prospect and very watchable. I don't think the defeat has tarnished my view of him as a decent prospect, just hope it hasn't messed his head up.

he will be, I think, Alex. Appleby looked very big at 126lbs to me, i really wondered about him draining.

i think he beats sykes all day long sykes poor footwork and lack of punch would be his undoing, really think appleby can go far at super feather with frank promoting him, style wise him and crolla would be a good fight

Was there any truth in the rumour that Appleby was considering retirement?

why on earth he had 15 months out is beyond me :surprised: he should have waited maybe 6 months then had a couple of 8 rounders and would be on the verge of fighting gary sykes

I think Paul has a great attitude. Also think he'll mature well into super feather. His best days are to come and I wish him all the best with it . Scottish boxing needs it's best young fighters performing at championship level.

Why Tommy? he doesnt manage Paul, and I am sure it was the wee mans choice not to fight so that his contract could run out.

To be fair paul a good fighter, although hes spent a long time out and can't expect a title shot straight away the SFW division is reasonably strong now,imo paul shouldn't be calling out Ricky Burns either there's only one winner im afraid.

ricky would win fairly comfortbly if he showed up, the burns that fought o'hara would get beat by appleby IMO

That fight with kevin isn't a true reflection of Ricky's abilities he will prove that 4th sept. What do you mean by if he turned up?

i meant to say if he shows up, he will win, i think ricky outpoints martinez and will put on the performance of his career..but if he is anything less then 100% he will get beat

No1, i agree that he shouldn't walk straight into a title shot after being inactive. Also think rickys too experienced at this stage but like to see the boys from up here get opportunities. I'm sure ricky will produce on the 4th and wish you both the best.
