Who saw Delaney right at the end of the BBC Jones-Tarver coverage last night?

I thought it was a good advert, mainly because it's the kind of thing you need to interest the public and get them to watch the fight. Sure people like you and I will watch it regardless but if the BBC's venture into boxing is to work they need to generate viewing figures and this is the way to do it.

And I wouldn't call Delaney a knob to his face if I was you....

I just found it very amusing. He was stood there like some kind of bare knuckle fighter/gangster 'a la Lenny McClean/Roy Shaw'.

I don't fancy his chances against Haye even remotely.

Well Delaney went the full 12 against Rothmann despite shipping some hard blows. This is no formality. Who knows how Haye might react if he gets clipped again? I doubt Lolenga Mock is a bigger banger than Delaney.

Yes, but people seem to be somewhat down on haye just for getting tagged once.

He's a world class prospect.........

In Haye's other performances he wasn't faced with any real danger. Mock was a step up for him even though the guy was a light heavy.

But anyhow I'm not too down on Haye. He's got the athleticism, the punch and the confidence to go a long way - he should beat Delaney but there's no doubt this is pretty early for Haye to be in with a guy with this much pro experience.

Last time it so very nearly went tits up for Haye. I hope he's learned from it otherwise we might get another Julius Francis / Pele Reid scenario here.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw it. It's the kind of thing Sky do all the time, and BBC are doing well to include some of the same. Must have been fun for Delaney to take part in the piece and it's good to see the beeb making an effort.
However, since the ad only lasted about 30 seconds, I'd like to see them sticking on at a better time (i.e. Peak time; after Superstars or something like that). No point in sticking it on at a time where only boxing fans are watching anyway, cos they already know about the Haye fight.

It was quite funny, I remember when BBC only had a few boxers (mid 90's - when they'd show the odd McCraken and Richie Woodhall fight (Richie's fight being live - take note). They had Garry as a prospect and he was hyped in the same way as Haye is now.

They (years ago, when he was a prospect) did a promo showing all his early KO's and after each KO would cut into a Delaney interview were he claimed that Imgama Johansson (spelling?) was a big fan and said he was the hardest punching light heavy in the world.

Delaney is a cagey bastard. Don't dismiss his chances too lightly. He's the champion remember and has masses of experience. The two have sparred in the past, and Haye admits it was good, even sparring. But as Kilburn said, this is a fight Haye should win. His greater speed will make the difference. But I would be very surprised - pleasantly surprised - if Haye were to bomb him out.

If we are talking about Haye as a "potential" World Champ though (one day), you wouldn't want to be concerned about him fighting the likes of Delaney surely?

If this is a guy that could end up WBC/WBA champ for example, a few years down the line, you'd assume his sheer class alone would be too much for Delaney.

Perhaps people should revise their estimates of Haye's potential then?

I don't think anybody's knocking Haye's potential. We need someone like him to come good, especially as his future undoubtedly lies in the heavyweight division. He could be the next Lennox Lewis.
But Delaney could be a tricky opponent on Friday night, and that needs to be acknowledged. Yes, this is a fight Haye is expected to win, but my gut feeling is, it won't be a blowout. Remember, Delaney holds a win over Lee Swaby, the only man to beat big Enzo. It's a good test for Haye.

Haye should win.
