Anyone know how many amateur and professional bouts that Duane Bobick had,that were either televised or filmed from 1968 to 1979?
I was only able to count 3 of his 103 (or 106) amateur fights 1968-1972,
and only 7 of his 52 professional fights 1973-1979,that seem to be available from the various DVD boxing sellers.

As far as I know,only round 3 of Knoetze vrs Bobick is available to fight film collectors these days.
I remember watching this on television in 1978(CBS sports Spectacular I think).It was on tape when they had shown it .
Judging from the commentary,it sounds as if only round 3 was shown on the sports show,which may be why only round 3 exists to collectors.

Here is some trivia for you.If you watch the DVD of the 1983 movie,TWILIGHT ZONE-THE MOVIE.
In the last story"It's a Good Life".(directed by Joe Dante).
When the woman goes into the roadside diner,the men there are watching a boxing match on the television.
Its the clip of Knoetze vrs Bobick with including the knockout,except its a pristine clip.
I wonder if the director put in in because he was a boxing fan or just another self rightous Hollywood is superior dumb-ass Bobick disser,like those unfunny leftist idiots
on .Saturday Night Live,who kept showing Norton knocking out Bobick over and over on one their dumb show skits a fews after the fight in May 1977.

May.23.1976
which was televised live from Munich Germany on NBC.
Bobick fought the Jamaican boxer Bunny Johnson.
He knocked Johnson down in the second round,and knocked him out with body shots in the ninth round.
(scheduled for 12 rounds).

As far as the 3 televised/filmed of the 103 amateur fights he had 1968-1972.
Bobick's amateur bout with Ron Lyle(January 1971,Fort Carson Co. USA Boxing team elimination tournament) were Bobick was knocked out in the second round(of course there was a camera there)
was broadcast on the February .1971 60 MINUTES Ron Lyle profile on CBS with Mike Wallace.
You can also see that knockout on the FACING ALI DVD.
(Bobick had 60 straight amateur fight victories after that fight).

I have only seen the clips of knock downs of Bobick in the third round ,
by Telofilo Stevenson in his second fight at the 1972 Summer Olympics at Munich Germany, Sept.5.1972, on
ABC WILD WORLD OF SPORTS.(Bobick won the Bronze medal).

Rodney Bobick,Duane Bobicks younger brother who had a professional record of 38-7.
As far as I know his only televised filmed fight was a preliminary to the closed -circuit Thrilla In Manilla in 1975,
against Larry Holmes.It was Rodney Bobick's only loss by a TKO.
Holmes said in his autobiography that he considered Rodney Bobick the better fighter of the two.

Too bad Bobick's wins over Middleton and (a then unknown) Mike Weaver wern't on TV, those were his best wins, I'd be interested in seeing them.

Both Duane and Rodney Bobick defeated Mike Weaver.
I think Duane Bobick's first real test against a legitement contender was probably in his 34th pro fight against Randy Neuman.
Even though he had defeated earlier some name fighters like Manual Ramos and George"Scrapiron"Johnson.

I'd say his win over Sanford, although a close fight, and his domination of LeDoux on two occasions were more impressive, especially considering the stages of their careers that Middleton and Weaver were in when Bobick beat them. Of course, it's all opinion.

And of course the worn Wepner and the once promising Schutte were good wins as well.

Interesting to see Wepner actually be competitive in a fight for a change (as opposed to his drubbings vs Bugner, Liston, Ali etc.), he stunned Bobick pretty good at the end of the 2nd.

I haven't seen that in a long time, so I'll have to watch it when I get the chance. I don't recall Bobick getting hurt, but I guess after a few hundred rabbit punches most people do get alittle woosy. I do remember that Bobick got get hit a lot, which was common in many of fights since being a stationary target was ultimately his biggest problem. I'm surprised that Foreman's management didn't snag Bobick rather than Young. Now what were they thinking...

Bobick was a decent, well schooled fighter but beyond a big punch lacked any exemplary physical talents, had a shaky defense, and a shaky chin. But I'd certainly rank him ahead of some modern prospects gone south like Calvin Brock and Chris Arreola. Would've loved to see him in with someone like a Chagaev, that would've been an interesting battle between two former amateur standouts who were/are decent pros but nothing special.

When Duane Bobick turned pro in 1973,his contract was with Bill Daniels(who also managed Ron Lyle)Bobick's trainers were Chickie Ferrara and Murphy Griffith(who had earlier trained Bobick as an amateur when both were in the Navy.
Joe Frazier bought Bobick's contract in August 1974 and he was then trained by Eddie Futch.
The first fight with that team was for the Roy Wallace bout in April 1975.
It has been said that Bobick's boxing style changed some what then and he started to fight a little like Joe Frazier too much(the two used to spar as well).

Reportly it had been Eddie Futch's idea to match Bobick against his old charge Ken Norton.
(Joe Frazier had said he was against the idea).
IMOP I would have rather seen Duane Bobick matched against a still useful Joe Bugner instead in early 1977.

demps, I actually think Arreola-Bobick would have been a helluva fight. Arreola is pretty limited, but he's tough and has more heart than most of the pretenders in the division today.

demps, I actually think Arreola-Bobick would have been a helluva fight. Arreola is pretty limited, but he's tough and has more heart than most of the pretenders in the division today.

I agree it would've been a very entertaining fight but I think Duane's harder, more precise and compact punching along with superior conditioning would've telled the tale. Even though Arreola would outweigh Bobick by about 35 lbs I think Duane was naturally the bigger man.

I remember there was a lot of publicty leading up to the Norton-Bobick bout in May 1977.
Both were guests on the NBC TOMORROW SHOW with Tom Snyder.
PEOPLE magazine did a profile of Duane Bobick.
and I think both Norton and Bobick did a comedy skit with Chevy Chevy Chase as ref ,on the Chevy Chase Show prime time special on NBC a few days before the fight .
