Regarding Ali-Norton I, there is an old debate not often brought up nowadays, but it has never really been solved.

Muhammad Ali & Angelo Dundee claim the jaw was broken in round two. Kenny Norton says he broke Ali's jaw late in the fight. Al Bernstein, of Showtime, once stopped short of siding with Norton, but did question the validity of Ali's claim, citing how busy Ali appeared in later rounds, & challenging (gently, mind) the idea Ali could have remained as active as he had.

Anyone have any real feelings on this? Who do you believe?

i definitely believe Norton over Ali, i never quite bought it that his jaw was broken in the 2nd, more like the 8th/9th from meemory...

That sounds about right, and about what I remember from when I watched the replay for the 512th time a while back. Either way it's hard to imagine it being the 2nd, mostly for the reasons that Irene noted.

Ali: "...but if I had known, that my jaw was broken, I would have let them stop the fight."

Ali: "Yes."

Interviewer: "Why?"

Ali: "You think I'm crazy?"

To be honest a broken jaw sounds bad but many people break bones without even knowing about it. You immediate thought is a broken jaw would be horrendous but it depends on the severity of the break. I remember reading that Lloyd Honeyghans 2yr old daughter broke his jaw years ago, it can be easily done.

Im not sure when Norton broke it but its possible it happened early and Ali wasn't in a lot of pain with it.

The below article is about a man who walked around for 62 years with a broken neck !!!!

This, though, was examined & said to be a particularly bad break. Ali said he felt it every time he jabbed, like a reverberation.

Could have been broken in the 2nd but then exacerbated much later on going from a small break into the bigger break that was verified? Possibly even more than 1 break? Or a fracture and a break?

Of the two I'd tend to side with Norton
