what a great night of boxing!!! congrats to barry and brian for some very even match ups, even though looking at the odds offered through fightbet.com you would have thought differently.
Kimweri v Manufoe. SD6. The Indonesian was very unlucky not to get the nod in this one. For all the hype with Kimweri, i didn't see anything to support this. I gave it 4 rds to 2 to Manufoe.
Watts v Gillingham. UD6. Liked this fight. Watts moves very well, bit like footballer, very athletic for his size. Dropped Gillingham early and just worked hard for remainder of fight and i think will keep improving every time out.
Costello v Horra. UD6. May have been UD but Costello didn't have it all his own way. Horra dropped him in the 1st and he was in la la land. Costello did well to recover and got caught a few times with overhand rights. Horra has been around for a while and certainly gave Costello a wake up call.
Pitt v Papua. KO3. As expected Pitt put this bloke away without to much trouble. found a home for his straight right and stopped Papua with a body shot. Just like Forsyth, Pitt needs to step up now.
Colomban v Alfons. UD6. Dominant display by Colomban, dropping Alfons twice in 1st round with wicked body shots. great kit of punches and moves well but i was a little worried that he didnt put him away. Colomban bounces around a lot, too much for my liking and i think that affects his power. may have been in there for the rounds though after the early damage but his work rate is amazing.
Tomlimson v Ray. KO8. In Marlin's words...WOW, JUST WOW!! i really like this kid and like Colomban, Will's kit of punches were impressive. Ray was durable enough to give Will a decent workout but the result was never in doubt. this guy will definitely go places, loved what i saw about this kid!!!!
Wilson v Whitehead. SD10. Not the greatest fight to watch, i was very frustrated as i think both fighters were at times. Didn't think that Whitehead did enough to take the title away from Wilson but then Wilson didn't fire enough either. Wilson took Whitehead's jab away, his best weapon from what i have seen, simply by being southpaw. this definitely frustrated Whitehead. it was very much like 2 bulls in the paddock trying to establish territory with neither giving ground. very hard to score this one.
My highlight of the evening was meeting and chatting to one of our own boxrec posters....the Iron Rhino himself. very obliging with his time and comments and i wish Mick all the best in his comeback...
