The hint as to what fight it is:
It probably upset a LOT of Puerto Ricans.
It'll be the only fight anyone would ever re-watch regarding Hopkins, that's for sure.
I loved, "Simply The Best!" blaring through the arena in the immediate aftermath of the bout. Titosites were the worst groupies I've ever encountered during my time following the sport, & that says a whole lot.

Pacquiao's fans are worse, at least Tito's fans would root for other PR fighters and not shred them for losing and had at least some general knowledge of past fighters like Gomez and Benitez.
I remember those fans holding up that "Roy Jones, you're next!" sign in the crowd though because of the verbal battles between Hopkins and Jones and the potential for a mega-fight between he and Tito at the time. Kinda funny to think about people actually thinking Tito-Jones could happen back then.
Speaking of Hopkins though, he has a few fights which are watchable. His bout with DLH wasn't bad and his schooling of Pavlik is wonderful to behold.

I can't agree. At the height of Titomania, his fans were absolutely, incomprehensibly, stone-cold, iron-clad imbeciles, completely disconnected from reality. Really, a fight with Jones was the least of their insane claims.

Really? What else did they say that you can remember. Robinson? Tyson?

I would have been disappointed if you, of all people, had any different of an opinion on Tito's fans.

It's funny you should mention Robinson --- & no, I'm not kidding.

That...I know what you're implying, & that's a coincidence.
Oh yeah, & shut up

Well I do think Trinidad coud've given Robinson a lot of problems, partially because he was naturally a little bit bigger (even as a WW he was entering the ring in the 160's) and also with his blend of offensive power-punch oriented boxing. I would still favor Robinson to beat him on points or perhaps stop him late but not without catching some nice return fire and possibly being floored himself. Mind you when comparing them I'm thinking of the LMW/MW version of Tito vs. the MW Champion version of Robinson (LaMotta-Maxim).

I have to say, watching what De La Hoya did to him, I feel Robinson would have run over him like a truck.

I hope you mean that figuratively. De La Hoya was outboxing Tito but he wasn't exactly battering him, and although I feel DLH still would've won had he engaged in the last few rounds, he didn't and it was largely to avoid Tito landing something fight-altering which he was most certainly capable of. The way it played out in my mind is that SRR would generally beat him to the punch much like DLH did but Ray himself was somebody who would absolutely commit to his offense if he felt confident, which against Tito I think could've gotten him in trouble a couple of times, although I'm sure he'd survive any shaky spots and like I already mentioned would either stop a slowing Trinidad late or clearly outpoint him. Those moments when he would stand toe-to-toe with Felix would've been nice to watch though.

The Glen Johnson fight is not a bad watch too as I recall. But I agree with G,I in the most part on Hopkins entertainment value.

I think a lot of Hopkins fights are entertaining. Most of his early fights before winning a title. The two Mercado fights for the title, Johnson, the first Echols fight, Trinidad, Pavlikk, Tarver, Lipsey, Brown, Joppy, Council, all three Allen fights etc etc. The thing about Hopkins, once he started getting boring was that he would increasingly pick up the tempo throughout the fight so while the first few rounds were boring they would progressively get better.

The Titosites weren't really playing out a match between the two, they were beginning to compare & contrast achievements between the fighters, drawing ludicrous parallels which simply were not there.
Wondering if Trinidad would still have a spine if Robinson landed the same left hook which completely obliterated iron-jawed, fully-fledged, all-time Middleweight, Gene Fullmer
Robinson would run over Trinidad like a truck.

Nice, as far as Fullmer goes, he wore him down a bit before that KO no? Tito has a good chin too, I seriously doubt he'd be run over as easily as you say, because my thoughts are if Ray decides to go all-out for a finish he's gonna get backed off himself by a Tito-bomb.

Wore him down? No. The KO came with one clean, isolated shot, in only the fifth round of a fight Fullmer was winning (using the same tactics he'd won with before, & would win with again in the future). This was also Robinson pushing forty years of age. He had lost at least some snap --- but still ironed out the bigger, tougher, more hardened (than Trinidad) Fullmer, all of twenty-five years of age, cold with one blow.
He'd have killed Trinidad with any punch even close to as good as that.
