Ummm.. don't want to flood the forum with Audley-Haye threads.... But I was actually getting, and I'm somewhat ashamed to admit it as a boxing fan, excited when they announced the fight and am looking forward to it.

Why?

The hype will be immense - both guys love to talk smack. There will be loads of news about it and it will be a genuine grudge match.

Will it be competitive?

Probably not, but Haye's chin has been shaky before and has not been tested at heavyweight and Audley could land the big'un. I mean he's more likely to win than EG Bruno was against Tyson. Anyway, plenty will want to see Audley ironed out - whether it's early or not and that will provide interest.

Is it good for boxing?

It won't be for the knowledgeable fan, but to the general public, I actually I think 'yes'. The fight will be all over the papers (compare this to how many papers even carried a mention of Burns-Martinez result.) Boxing coverage in the dailies has got to be a good thing. Also it is a genuine all-British grudge fight... how long has it been since we had a comparable one?

It's just a very poor man's Lewis v Bruno in my opinion. The fact that it is going to generate a lot of money is blinding people to the fact that it's a poor fight.

Audley has done absolutely nothing to suggest he is even faintly world class. He won his European strap from a man who was a european trialhorse and who had already beaten him in crushing fashion.

Haye isn't the sturdiest in the mandibular department, but then Audley is hardly Conan the Destroyer.

I think we will see the same old Audley, pawing with the jab, and fighting off the back foot against the smaller man. He will survive a few rounds through caution and relatively decent defensive skills.

However, Haye won't fanny around all night, and will eventually get bored and start going for it, at which point Audley goes to sleep, hopefully along with his career and public profile.

Yes, and when Audley turns in a dismal performance before getting flattened in summary style, will that be good for boxing too?

Mandibular is certainly my word for the day. I'll use that bad-boy later.

Completely agree with you, I doubt it will be a hugely exciting contest but it might provide the casual fan a few good knock downs and will provide the press with some boxing interest. If they get a good undercard or at least good chief support it may well be good for boxing because people may want to follow the careers of some of the fighter featuring on the undercard.

I don't think it will be a bad thing for boxing if Harrisson gets beat down in the 1st round because for the casual boxing fan they will want to see more of the same, which will lead them to watch more boxing.

It's not a great match up but Haye has had a history of having a slightly suspect chin and that is Harisons main weapon so there could be some interest.
