YES HE CAN!

I stayed up till 4am to watch Audley do the business and win gold in Sydney against some unpronouncable hardcase from Uzbekistan and the next day - I swear to God - I went on the webl boxing forum (the best boxing forum on the planet circa 2000) to tell the people that the man was going to become world heavyweight champion.
Everyone agreed with me.
However, since then, things turned to shit a little and we have now took a scenic route around the estates on the Audley bus to get to the promise of a world title shot.
Audley has a big mouth, is concieted, has a truly high opinion of himself and has an excuse ready at every turn - he may be a bit of an arsehole but he is OUR arsehole!
I like Haye, he is a good fighter, a good champion, exciting, good looking and intelligent but he is looking a bit cavilier in the ring these days and is looking suspectible to a nicely timed bomb from a counter puncher as skilled as big Audley! D'Artangnan is ready to get his arse kicked from boxings version of Cardinal Richelieu.
It can't be just me Wilson, Chambers, Ollie, Mickey1975, the artist formerly known as DG and Dooley who are believing the big lump can do it! There must be more of us lurking around but afraid to say owt.
Paul Smith, Bellew and the rest of the pros on here - I know this thread is not about you but please stop by and give us your take on it!

Biggest fight in British boxing!
Can he do it?

I think what will be the difference on the night is whether Big Aud thinks he can win or not,if he does then it will be exciting,to me haye is still a cruiserweight, can he take a big shot like the one audley dropped sprott with,i'm not sure, will haye go in all guns blazing and get caught, audley is a lot bigger and i'd think stronger,is an awkward southpaw and would like nothing better than to prove us all wrong.Although everything points to a devastating haye win,i,with my limited knowledge of boxing think harrison will surprise haye with one good shot and win.

Of course Audley can do it. He has a big punch and Haye doesn`t have the best set of whiskers.
However, the more likely outcome will be very different.

what I would add is that AH has to protect his vulnerabilities/ deficiences for 12 full rounds potentially....and that's a huge ask for him IMO.

If anyone truly thinks Audley will do it, why not make (or lose) some money?

Apparently you'll get great odds on Audley.

Personally, I think he'll taste Haye's power early, cover up for 12 rounds, be contented with not being ko'd and then claim some moral victory about how no-one expected him to last 3 rounds.

It's going to be funny to see all the build up, Audley talk the talk, hype everyone.. Then about 30 secs into the fight he will get hit sweet by Haye, either wobble and get finished or shell up for a couple rounds trying to survive before he's banged out or stopped.
Joke....

Don't project what is going to happen to Sam Sexton next week onto Audley Harrison.

You are right, had Audley not won he would have lost.

Quite. You know what I'm saying.
Had Audley not fucked his shoulder what do you think would have happened tho?
Had Sprott looked at the floor swung his arm as hard as he could in Audley's general direction and NOT had his hand land perfectly on Audley's chin while his mouth was wide open would Sprott have won the first fight, considering he was losing the fight before that point?
Look at it this way, in the first Sprott v Audley fight, Audley was dominating and got caught. In the second fight Sprott was winning by so much Audley needed the KO, and like you say Audley managed to swing and land the hail mary punch. I don't think many people actually look at it like that in the cold light of day.
We've all seen blokes swing and miss and said 'well jesus had he actually caught the guy with that shot.....' As someone once said, 'history is just an endless cycle of what ifs.'

Thats the way it is - Audley isnt a riskless as people think. Chances are he will be destroyed but he is a big fella and he can punch.

Audley will get stopped very easily IMO too slow for David if he lands big he can win but I don't think he will we seen how David can stick to a game plan for 12 rounds against valuev so this is going to be a walk in the park for him

I think it's a myth that Harrison can get put into his shell with hard shots. On the contrary, he is at his most reticent when in his comfort zone, content to paw his way to victory. Yes, he is cautious in doing so, and seems to only "go for it" when he's absolutely sure his opponent is there for the taking, but he seems more concerned about the
threat of punches rather than the actual taking of them. Consider his losses:
Williams - poor effort from both men, with the fight only igniting AFTER Audley was knocked down; in fact he came on to hurt Williams the very next round.
Guinn - Audley wasn't hurt, therefore was never spurred into action.
Sprott - a one-punch KO, so irrelevant
Rogan - a hard fight and, though Audley lost, he did meet fire with fire.
We've all seen him disappoint in his aggression (or lack of), but I've never seen evidence of him going into a shell after taking hard shots.

The hype surrounding this fight will be overwhelming and I do not deny I will enjoy the build-up and will watch a stream of the fight. However, overall this is a terrible match-up and a damning indictment of the heavyweight division. If you need to rely on a Hail Mary punch to win a vacant euro belt against a domestic trialhorse; what business have you sharing the ring with a holder of one version of the world heavyweight belt? It's all about the money, people know this but, just like a crash site on the motorway, they will feel compelled to have a look.
I think a new kind of moderator is required on Boxrec; one who must keep watch for every instance in which Audley being behind on points against Sprott is mentioned, so as to remind them ONCE AGAIN that there was a
very good reason for that.
As much as Audley's critics are loathe to give him any credit for anything, it is only fair that their bias is exposed every time they use this argument.
Danny Williams v Mark Potter = heroic stuff!
Audley Harrison v Michael Sprott = what arm injury?

Harrison has decent punching power, but come on, lads. He's sh*t-scared in the ring. He blinked his way through the Prizefighter final and was losing to Sprott, both fighters of whom aren't great. If anyone believes Harrison's going to let go of his punchers is going to be disappointed with Harrison. Again.

Yes, he was injured. It was actually quite commendable, but he was still losing.

Craig Bodzianowski fought for a world title despite having a false leg. It's actually quite commendable. But he still lost.

Hello Dioufy - I like your posts so I am not wishing to be rude, but what Ollie is trying to say that the reason Audley was losing was probably down to the injury and the fact he only had one arm. If Audley would have had to good arms, he wouldn't have been trailing.
