Frankie Gavin is different to every British Boxer ever to step into a British ring as a pro, he is the Britains only ever World Amatuer Champion. We have had Olympic champions but never a world champion from the amatuer ranks. Gavin broke that trend in 2007 when in he went to Chigaco, America. He is now about a year into the professional game and is 7-0-0 with 6 kockout to his name. Gavin already has made big strides in the pro game, many thinking his tip-tap boxing amatuer style would take some getting used to and he would be groomed well by promoter allegedly before being stepped up in class. However Frankie Gavin has already shown great potential as a pro fighter knocking out 6 of his opponents and putting on a shut out preformance agaisnt Peter McDonagh who gave Lee Purdy and British Champion Lenny Daws all they could handle but Gavin controlled McDonagh easily. Many can already tell that Frankie is a special fighter and are tipping him for greatness, you can tell by his style already that he will be albe to outbox most and also can trade with the best of them which perhaps could make him the compleate fighter?. Even before Frankie turned Pro on 2009 Golden Boy were intrested in Frankie and wanted to sign him up for there stable but Gavin chose the British route. Gavin is also a good talker and a great character which will also be important in bringing in fans which ive noticed watching him live , he has already begun builing a good fanbase which if he keeps winning will only keep growing. I belive Frankie may domiate the world in many divisions but first in his 8th fight on September the 18th fights for the light-welterweight Irish Title agaisnt Michael Kelly. If anyone else agrees with what im saying please comment or you think someone else could be the future , someone like James Degale or Tony Bellew ? Please give your comment on what you think ?

I agree that Gavin's the best prospect we currently have. Looks as though he's being moved at the right pace and has a good team around him as well, so everything heading in the right direction...

I love watching Frankie box, have since the ams where he was the most naturally elusive fighter around. He has everything, including the nous, to go all the way.

Great personalty, shines through in His Boxing,Good group of people round Him too. Watching Him work is delightfull, you can see He is loving what He is doing. Great Fighter.

Gavin's gonna' give us many good years as boxing fans. Can't wait to follow his rise.

Very interesting to read the views of Frankie there totally different views compared to 12 months ago. Not so long ago on here i read negative views. He's proved the doubters wrong so far. I tipped him to go all the way as soon as i felt the power from his punches. He gets better with every fight. He has a big following from little old York. Degale will win a world title in time.

Agreed. If it wasn't for Cleverley I'd expect him to win the Young Boxer of the Year Award. A very, very good boxer. In answer to an above poster, Amir Khan is something very special. Him and Frankie have very different styles. Personally I think Frankie has better fundamentals, but Amir has the speed that only a couple of boxers in the world have. Hey, why can't we have 2 fighters of that calibre in world boxing?

Really? I can recall a couple of doubters but unless my memory is failing me the majority of here have always felt he was capable of something special.
The only thing I can think he attracted negativity for was the situation around his weight-making and rumours about his out-of-the-ring lifestyle.
People never doubted his ability, merely his commitment, and it's his attitude over the past year that has changed views in that regard.

Agreed with this.

Lets not heap too much pressure on the lad or his trainer - both are going in the right direction - Gavin and his team could have some very big nights.

I know I am looking forward to seeing him box on 18th. It will be the first time I will have seen him in an arena.

Frankie Gavin has obvious class, is gifted and is streets ahead of area level competition. The lads at 12 round British title level are for the most part battle proven and have good stamina (as John Simpson demonstrated to Steven Smith last week). I think Gavin will box at a very high level but he will not have it all his own way. I'm not that sure who is the best prospect out of the Olympians or other top amateurs. To be honest Saunders looked very good. (I know he posts on here so it feels like I'm creeping but Tony Bellew looks a tough night for just about anyone in Europe and would crack some heads in the world top 20. He's in at 30 but reckon he'd get McIntosh or McKenzie out pretty fast. (Frankie Gavin is in at 101 but I think he'd beat Jason Cook who is in at 48 (BoxRec rankings).)

Pernell had plenty of pop in his punches when he wanted to use it; Gavin will use his technique to effect the knock outs; the shot you don't see is the one that puts you sleep.

He has a world class skill set, no question. The only defficiencies he has are his lack of power (it's not terrible, just not great) and the fact that he marks up quite easily. He should definitely win a world title though. But there are about 5 or 6 up and coming British fighters who I think should win a world title in the next few years.

The single best thing that Gavin could do is stay away from the Media spotlight and continue fighting at the lower levels.

There's lots of time later on to get a Public Profile and be a celebrity.

Gavin should stay active, keep fighting every 6-8 weeks...
Kepp the head down for the rest of 2010 and the first 8 months of 2011. Maybe up the calibre of his opponents toward the end of next year.

In 2012, he should be looking for a British Title shot, (around his 20th fight).

Then maybe 4 or 5 title defences...

Then look at the Commonwealth title, win that. Get a few defences.

The European title is then the next thing, and he probably will win that when he's the finished article.

as for whittaker he could punch abit & got stoppages at world level ;;-)

how about waiting a bit and seeing what happens. his division might end up being a shi t hot one and might have to be kept away from this or that fighter, for all we know.

the thing is, when you get all excited, you end up waiting quite a long time to see the big fights happen.

still, good to see ppl believing in british fighters.
