Boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez makes a surprise and unwelcome return to the ring at 41 against former conqueror Willy Wise next Saturday (November 22) in Tijuana, Mexico, on the same card as his son, Julio Cesar Chavez Junior.
Wise shocked the boxing world - and signified the end of Chavez as a major force - with a unanimous decision over the Mexican great in Las Vegas in October 1999.
Chavez, 104-5-2 (85), last fought in November 2001 when he stopped American Terry Thomas in two rounds in Juarez, Mexico.
Wise, 36, has been inactive himself, and hasn't boxed since April 2002 when he was stopped in seven rounds by Leo Edwards in the States. He has lost his last three in fact, including a 12-round decision to Jawaid Khaliq for the IBO welterweight title in Nottingham. He is currently 26-10-4 (7).
Hopefully, this is just a one-off for Chavez senior, who has made it known he wanted to box on the same bill as his 17-year-old son. Chavez Junior has his second pro fight against an as yet unnamed opponent after winning his debut in Culiacán last month with a points win Jonathan Hernandez.

No, Camacho Snr and Jnr have too faught on the same bill (on a few occasions). Possibly the Durans aswell (although thats a guess)

Bennie - Julio's other son (an Amateur) is also fighting on this bill. Chavez has already signaled his intentions to fight once more in January as a final goodbye. However, worryingly he's stated that if he could turn back time, he'd love to win the Welter title. He seems at peace that its never going to happen, and seems certain this is a farewell. However, I do worry if one of the leading sanctioning bodies take this comeback more seriously and he gets a lofty positioning. Apart from Mayorga, the devision is quite poor I worry that if Chavez wins these comebacks he might start to believe the dream.

I can't think of any Father/Son appearances on these shores. The closest I think we've ever come was Foster Jnr and Snr, Steve Snr only recently retired when the Jnr made his pro debut. Anybody know of any other close situations.

On a similar based question. Is Joe Bugner the only fighter to have outlasted his sons career? (i.e. continued boxing when his son has packed it in).

Leon Spinks fought on for a number of years after his first son to turn pro (Calvin Spinks) was murdered. Calvin was a promising Light-Heavy who had only fought 2 or 3 times but had signed up to Cedric Kushner shortly before his death.

There was quite a few years between the end of Jack's career and the start of Brian's.

I know they both beat a guy called Prosper Beck who I think was a Belgian heavyweight.

The name usually crops up in those trivia questions asking about fighters who fought father and son, eg Bugner fighting the Fraziers and Jersey Joe Walcott fighting the Johnsons.
