Haye let himself down with his gang rape comment

i ve always liked haye want him to beat audley but felt his comment that the fight would be as onesided as a gang rape was distasteful and should of been retracted-watch tonights news about the appalling gang rape of 100s of women in the Congo, to see if the comment can be justified under any circumstances
It merely gave public support to harrison and let him down as a man.Ive met Haye he is a nice guy and an undoubted talent but he doesnt need to say tysonesque comments for shock value- dont go down that road david.

A truly horrific crime but I can assure you that David Haye had nothing to do with it. David is a boxer and not a politician. Boxers say stupid things and have been doing this for over a century. Just look back at some of the things Ali said during his time. There is no need to single out Haye for this slip of the tongue. It would've been sensible if he had retracted the comments immediately but it's not worth starting a thread over. As for Haye being a nice guy, I'll be happy to take your word for it because I have not really seen this nice guy side myself. I always find him very arrogant and so full of himself.

I acknowledge a foolish comment to make.

David Haye is a proper gent - he has simply been caught in the heat of the moment wanting to sensationalise what basically is a nothing fight or another way of putting it - a one sided mismatch.

He shouldnt of said it - he is a gent 99% of occasions.

I think sometimes it's better when you slag some one off to write what they really said or not just part of it! He said "this fight is gonna be more violent and one sided than being gang raped by a group of silver back gorillas"
get with the program guys!

As far as comedy goes, I don't really have a proble with rape jokes. If comedians were not allowed to make jokes that offended some people, comedy would be in a very sad state. I'm sure there would be no outcry if a comedan made a joke about someone who was traumatized by robbery or something along those lines.

I think if Haye said 'this will be moe violent than a war', less people would be outraged.

when the bloke on R4 asked if haye wanted to apologise, he was like 'ill apologise if it isnt one sided'... thats not even nearly what he meant David!

It was a terrible, ill-judged remark. Everyone talks bollocks at times though.

The real problem was when he was given the opportunity to apologise - which he should have done - and didn't.

I haven't seen the interview, but if that's what was said then this has been blown way out of proportion.

That's not the clip I heard, though it could have been edited. Regardless, it's unnecessary.

haye clearly made a mistake, as ian points out and if he would of retracted it no more would of been made of it.
however his refusal to do so, means that he is esculating and taking it to another level ashley, watching him on sky after kay burley said she'd always like him but found his gang rape comment distasteful, was the ideal time for him to backtrack instead he kept on justifying what he'd said-i bet kay burley hopes audley beats him now, as will many people- hes in danger of turning the most despised boxer in britain audley into the good guy and gizmo he maybe a great boxer and not a politician but he still has a responsibility as we all do, to not defend the indefenceable

Yep, echoes my sentiments - find it absolutely bizarre that Haye did not seem willing to apologise for what can clearly be regarded as an extremely offensive remark. Very poor.

Kay Burley is one terrible journalist - her pre-election stuff for her paymaster was stomach-churning.

It's got nowt to do with this, I'm just saying 8)

Agree 100% - hope you saw her suitably put in her place a couple of days ago by Chris Bryant:
