Any other sport would ban him and it's far worse than anything I've seen before.

He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near fighters or the sport he has disgraced until he has cleaned himself up. Even Max Clifford has suggested he was taking it whilst he was fighting. Hatton's quote that "it only stays in your body for three days" suggests he has looked into it and that makes Clifford assumption look very likely. If he wasn't fighting anymore when he became a junlie then why would he care how long it stays in your body?

Therefore, if this is the case he has cheated and cociane would certainly help him shift the three stones of blubber he regularly dumped to make his fighting weight.

Someone had a thread yesterday asking why all the Hatton threads were taken down. Surely the biggest topic this year so why censor it? You will recall that in the past any question as to WHO OWNS BOXREC was also removed. Anyone starting to put 2 and 2 together?

Blatantly ripping off the blood supply of the sport (the boxers) out of cash they are owed is a disgrace too. That's not good for the image of the sport either.

Warren's absolutely right.

Hatton should have his licence withdrawn immediately. If I was in charge of the BBBofC's PR department, I would also couple it with a message of support for Ricky and his family during this difficult time, reassure him that the BBBofC is ready to help, and say that as soon as he can prove that he has cleaned up his act, and taken whatever punishment could come his way, that he'll be welcomed back into the fold.

However, is Warren not being just a teeeny bit hypocritical here? What was Warren's involvement with promoting Scott Harrison when he had a similar problem with alcohol, and had taken to petty and violent criminality? Didn't Warren still try to promote him? There have been others, too.

I respect Warren as by a long way the best manager/promoter in the UK. Perhaps even the world. However, these columns and his attitude to any fighter he doesn't promote -- especially the ones he used to -- irritates me. Haye, for instance, could beat both Klitschkos twice, and Warren still wouldn't give him credit.

Warren has been in the game for years, and really knows boxing, so his insights could be extremely illuminating and interesting. Instead, they're all to often spiteful, score-settling sermons from his own morally unimpeachable ivory tower.

I agree, I have a great deal of respect for what Frank has done for britsh boxing and british fighters, but his tiresome rants against other british boxers is some what cringe worthy at times, Carl Froch, Haye and Hatton always seem to bear the brunt of his comments.

I think there is a fine line between the defence of the sport's reputation and one man's personal vendetta. After all, personal ethics are not to be sniffed at.

One thing that is certain, Ricky Hatton can never again be the likeable, mainstream face of boxing.

And you do have to wonder for all Warren's obvious inclination to maximise the impact of this news on his former fighter, how Hatton can ever oversee the career of young fighters or established champions?

Warren has a point, plenty might wish to sanitise this news by reminding people how difficult life is when the spotlight swings away, the adrenaliene rush of the big nights has passed and you have a beautiful, doting girlfriend, 9 year old son, close knit family, £30 million quid to spend, the adoration of the British public, worldwide recognition and a promising promoting business to run in which you make all the decisions.

But I doubt many will have much sympathy, for every poster who has suggested this is typical Saturday night behaviour and common place on the kitchen sink estates in the North West, there are probably 5,000 who have never taken coke, nor its contemporaries and will be appalled at the choices Hatton has made.

Like many here, the rumours and off-the-cuff remarks from those based in the area, often from newbie posters, have been dismissed or over-looked for over a year.....smudged in with his drinking, nobody bit on the suggestion toot was part of his intake. We didn't want to suspect the most popular fighter of his generation. Like so many stories in boxing; fight-fixing, steroids, sanctioning body corruption, we dont want to talk about it. We're ostriches. Cannot spell that word. Unconnected but, tevery week now it is commonplace for their to be smearsd about drug use in boxin, perrformance nehancing drug-use. A new name linked or presumed to have used. It reall is time that story was outted. Mosley, Jones Jnr....all guilty, what puishment was meted out....fkk all. He's apparently going into rehab so don't that mean that he will be clean?

How would the BBBoC be able to prove that he is scientifically 'clean' as if it only stays in your system for 3 days then it would be hard to prove whether he is off the stuff anyway. It will only come down to his words. So to me someone who claims to be clean is someone who manages to get other people's trust that they actually are clean.

I don't think you can ban someone for getting caught snorting coke, it might not be good for a role model to be caught doing it and seemingly not having any punishment but when he is a promoter it only punishes so many other people and not just him as a promoter, ie his boxers, trainers, family, friends, fans, tv etc....

If Hatton gets banned then what happens to all of his fighters, the tv contract. Warren only wants him banned so he can own more of the tv share. It's just him being greedy.

I'm sure loads of promoters have taken drugs in the past and present. I'm sure Don King has

when hatton and haye make fools of themselves, they're just giving guys like warren ammunition.

I think that this is wrong, David. There's a lot of hokum talked about "turning to drink and drugs" as if the only reason people became addicted to them was because they have mental problems or are having difficulty coping with life, for whatever reason. What about those who lack willpower? Who let drugs or drink or whatever creep in until they're utterly addicted and it really is difficult to stop?

Let's not forget that both are addictive. I seriously doubt that this happened because he was "missing the bright lights" or "struggling to cope with retirement". More likely it was something kept in check by two twelve week training camps a year and the prospect of having to fight in the future, but now has no barriers. He now has loads of time on his hands, and loads of money and no reason to stay fit, so without serious amount of self control, its easy to imagine him drinking every day and slowly building up on the coke where it goes from being the occassional line, to something you have when you go out with mates, to something you have every time you go out, to something you need.

Just my view, of course, but I would be extremely surprised if he "turned to coke and drink because he was in a bad way". The truth is probably that he was in a bad way because he had let drink and coke take over.

Technically, coke is prob' the reason he put on 3 stone of blubber so quickly, it may surpress appetite temporarily, but it then encourages binge eating + drinking. I've seen it plenty, people with coke habits putting on weight quite dramatically.

Carbo, you miss my point - the only defence these chaps have is the "miss the adreneleine or euphoria" because in every other aspect of their life....the story is rosy. So, perhapsI'm just naive or led a shelterered life.....but isn't the obvious contentment he would seem to have at his fingertips not enough. Yes, this is right. I reckon that's the only excuse: struggling to cope with life without the adrenalin of the big stage, bright lights, etc. Ultimately, it's just about discipline and debauchery, as it is for the vast majority of us.

Yep, Max Clifford is a plonker but he is excellent at what he does. No doubt we will see a trim and healthy looking Hatton giving an emotional, tear sodden interview in the coming months.

Boxing needs to make an example of Hatton as he's a role-model for millions of children. If he's allowed to get away with taking class A drugs scott-free then what kind of example does that send to the children whoo look upto him? I think his behaviour is disgusting (as is the removal of all anti-Hatton posts from this forum).
