Warren Tansey - Long Overdue, September 17th, Manchester Velodrome

Warren Tansey will surely be looking to knock out his fourth victim in as many fights and record another concussive win when he faces off against the well travelled James Tucker at the Manchester Velodrome’s Long Overdue bill on Friday, September 17th.

Despite losing his maiden professional fight, Tansey, who hails from Middleton, has ensured that the scorecards have not been an issue ever since. Following a points loss to Nottingham Super-Middleweight Paddy Ryan in September last year, no subsequent adversary has made it to the 4th round.

Such a turnaround could be viewed as a great example for perseverance. For many fighters, a debut loss is not the be all and end all, it is how they respond that counts and Tansey has responded in the most effective way possible for a fighter, with a stream of impressive KO’s. Tansey admitted that the loss to Ryan affected him; “Of course I was down-hearted, but you’ve got to pick yourself up and get on with it”.

When asked to comment on his remarkable recent form, Tansey heaped praise on current trainer Darren McCarrick, “Working with Darren has done me a lot of good, he knew me from the amateurs and working again with Darren has been brilliant and he’s helped me improve in a lot of areas, including my strength”.

This improvement in his strength has obviously been paying dividends, with Tansey pointing out that although he is a super-Middleweight operator, some of his opposition have been natural Light- Heavyweights, including his next rival, James Tucker, which shows just how potent the Middleton man’s punch is.

An examination of Tucker’s record shows durability despite the heavy number of losses he has sustained (only 1 Knock-out loss from 27 defeats) so the upcoming contest should be a reliable indicator of Tansey’s power. Warren seemed totally confident on the issue, simply stating “I know he’s durable but I’ll be trying to stop him”.

Looked really raw when I saw him in action- strong as fornicate though. Hope he can add some skills to his game- seems to have heart and strength in abudance.

Remember that fight like it ws yesterday-McCarrick demolished Adrian with double left-hooks,and I was gutted as Adrian was a friend at the time.

Im better off financially now than I ever could have been being a pro boxer. unless I was a top 10 World fighter for 5 years+.

I remember watching Warren's debut loss. Up against a decent, tall, southpaw who'd won as many as he's lost, not many miles on the clock and came to win.........I wouldn't be thanking my matchmaker for that one on my debut!! Great comeback since!!!
