The Sun newspaper today is reporting that Hatton was attacked and floored/knocked out by at least two men in a pub in Hyde at the weekend. Apparently because he refused to cough up 20k some gangster was demanding from him as protection money.

Anyone got any more news on this?

That was reported by the Sun, too, but I had understood that it happened earlier than on Sunday. Perhaps this is a separate incident?

The Sun must be loving this. Hatton is certainly controlling the PR expertly, and now seems to be even getting positive reports. But the Sun can now glowingly report on his progress, likely lad battles back from adversity, knowing that the first sign of a night out on the drink will bring it new free headlines. Hatton Back on the Drink, etc.

This happened the night AFTER the News of the world article? The day of all the appologies etc?

The News of the World expose was out Saturday night (websites) and Sunday morning (print).

Hasn't everbody who lives in and around Manchester beat up Hatton at some point!?

It's Open Season unfortunately for Ricky at the moment, how many other fools will try and cash in.

Thankfully he's got what seems like good people around him.

There's none of us innocent babes. There is a tendency for people to be delighted at the failings of others. Ricky Hatton must know 10,000 people. 9,900 of them will be pretty 'normal' and 100 of them will be either arseholes, nut cases or gangsters (or a combination). Hatton should get away for a bit, he'll be able to get back on track again.

If a couple of blokes filled him in, so what? Ricky is way out of shape had probably had a few and the 2 blokes'd have been bigger than him (no doubt). At his best, in the ring, Ricky was a real handful for any but the very best in the world.

I hope he sorts it out.

Thanks Glyn.....weirdly my memory for more recent fights and fighters fades...but I can remember a lot more about the fighters in my teens/early twenties.

I remember Mason raving about him, and also saying, perhaps a bit oddly, that his dream was to find a half-Jewish (ethnically I guess), half-black heavyweight as that combo would sell the most tickets....

Now, if only Roman Greenberg's mother has procreated with someone else....
