Murray looking to show he is World class while defending Euro title.
After making his pro debut 7 years ago this September, Manchester’s European and British Lightweight Champion John Murray is looking to continue his unbeaten record when he meets his mandatory challenger and the Ukrainian number one, Andrei Kudriavtsev at Robin Park Arena, Wigan on Saturday 25th September.
Matchroom Sport and Hennessy Sports will promote the 12 round European title fight which will be shown live on Sky Sports HD1 from 9pm.
25th Year old Murray who defended both his titles against the brave and talented Welshman Gary Buckland last May is trying not to look past Kudriavtsev but believes he will have to be at his best to defend his perfect unbeaten record and keep the prestigious EBU belt around his waist.
“Both myself and Joe have watch tapes and studied Andrei’s style, he looks tough, likes using the body shots but then again most of the fighters from that part of the world are very good. He will be coming over here looking for a major win to launch himself on the World stage. He is not here just to make up the numbers.”
“Training has all gone well, I’m feeling great and I’m ready to show that I’m the best lightweight in Europe.”John added.
The Mancunian is hoping once he has taken his record to 30 – 0 it will catapult him on to the world stage.
“Once I have beaten Kudriavtsev I’m hoping to get a world title shot against the winner of the Katsidis vs. Marquez fight, and of course I would love that to be staged at the MEN arena.” Man City fan Murray added.
On the exciting undercard, former WBC title challenger Albert Sosnowski, Prize-fighter winner Price Arron, former Commonwealth champion Paul Truscott, former British title challenger Josh Wale and hot prospects, Kid Galahad, Joe Murray and Phill Fury will all be back in action.
Tickets for this great night of boxing at the Robin Park Arena, Wigan are ON SALE NOW and can be purchased from the Matchroom Sport Box Office on 01277 359900. Tickets are £30 for unreserved seats and £60 for Ringside.

Quite frankly whoever is behind 'Mighty Mick's PR efforts needs to take a good look at themselves. They haven't worked out simple basics like the fact that online PR is all about engagement, not just 'pushing' out press releases. Hence, fuel is added to the flames of the Froch fiasco by the failure to have any communication with fans about it. Meanwhile, while trying unsuccessfully to push that debacle under the carpet, insult is added to injury by pretending that it's business as normal and just cutting and pasting press releases up on the forum.
Looks like whoever's responsible for this sort of thing is about as good at publicity as Mick is at looking after Carl's career

Just letting him fight on the same bill as his brother, he's still with the Hattons

Isn't it not a joint promotion with Barry Hearn who looks after John? Thats what I thought.

i think murray will deliver vs kudriavtsev, a good, tidy and aggressive european level fighter.
remember the mexican whom murray was nominated to fight in a WBC elim? daniel estrada. he got beaten on the limond-morales undercard.

Cheers for that, thanks for your insightful input.
He's not finished just yet, one defeat doesn't signal the end

Losing on points at world level ... is not the same as getting banged-out by a domestic peer who himself got stretched by fringe world class fighter.
I like John but he's got a sh*t load of changes to make to get further than where he is. Charging full steam ahead has nearly derailed him before Mitchell even came along - and now it has backfired he definitely needs a different approach.
I think he is strong and tough, but needs to trade off some machismo for some ring craft and tactics.
I'd like to see more timing, a bit more space, more head movement and him spending his energy better. He tried to burst Mitchell's lungs and take his heart but he played straight into the Londoner's game plan.
The next fight is important and I dont think Murray needs a soft touch, he needs to get back on the horse immediately. It will be an interesting fight to see what approach he will take against his opponent.
He took his defeat like a man which is a very good sign. Let's hope he comes back better than ever.

The Worse thing about this is not the lack of any real argument but the fact that you have clearly scrolled through pages and pages of threads on here to find that then "comment" on it
Its not raining anymore - go out and enjoy yourself

I find it hard to beleive that ppl would think a fighter that struggles against a superfeatherweight like Al-Hamidi is going to be world class.

where was Josh1111 argument backing up his claims that Murray is "class"?

i think some changes need to be made because he seemed to fight the same way vs qauzghari (a fight, albeit very exciting, i didn't see til last week) as he did vs mitchell. something was missing - variety? snap?
the vaunted body attack doesn't seem to be there. defeats make a lot of fighters. i agree with what wazza said- it was a world class fight & he said he'd look after murray, get him the opportunities such as rees, which makes me optimistic.
as i said on another thread, murray was measuring mitchell by reaching out the left hand, to set up a right hand, when he probably should have been ripping kevin's guts out with left and right hooks downstairs. murray was showing what he intended to do, when he perhaps could have slowed mitchell down first to the body and then brought on the hurtful head shots.
on the upside he's (murray) been in two of the most exciting fights in a british ring. on the downside he needed momentum and got a setback.
don't know how many conclusions we can make because it's about how he will respond to the defeat itself, which we dont know til next time.
congrats to mitchell and the tibbs' - ppl say mitchell is class, and we saw that in his most satisfying ever performance.
BTW, i enjoyed seeing mark tibbs acting again, in ron peck's experimental film CROSS CHANNEL (guy who did boxing themed EMPIRE STATE, FIGHTERS and REAL MONEY).

X2 I agree, lots of boxers come back better for a defeat, I like John and think he is quality, him and Mitchell put on a great fight, and Kevin showed a defeat does not mean the end, (as Khan v Prescott, any many others). Have a break get back in the gym, work hard and come again! Don`t like the stick John appears to be getting after one defeat, and bringing up threads from over a year ago is a bit sad really!!

Amir Khan lost to Prescott by 1st KO who then went on to get dominated by Mitchell. Look what Khan has gone on to achieve. Murray had the longest unbeaten run in the country and had dominated most of the fighters put in front of him.
Mitchell was a man with a point to prove after being smashed by Katsidis who is only fringe world level himself. Alot of people on here, me included, wrote Mitchell off after that defeat so fair play to him.
Murray will come again, wait and see Terminator.
Again, thanks for posting, its been a pleasure

yeah I think it's too late to change his style to a large degree but some tweeks wouldn't go amiss, this may be down to Thaxton being finished but in that fight Murray was more measured and picked his shots a bit more. Less of the bull rush in style.
He's still got plenty to offer though.

I can only put it down to one thing, Amir Khan. I have come on here a few times stating i dont like the guy and hope he loses. I have read through terminator's past posts and all he does is talk Khan up.
He probably looked through my old posts to see where i was wrong in the past and brought it up to try take the piss.
