Following on from the other McCallum thread, as I think McCallum was the absolute master. watching a Mccallum fight you'd never think it was illegal to push your man off bodily with all your weight through both arms, but by god he did it time and time again to gain the space he wanted and I can't ever recall him getting pinged for it by a ref. he got pinged more often for the low shots but only ever for 1/4 of the shots he landed low, and he was a bugger for the cheeky elbow in the throat or shoulder to the face on the inside.

Chavez was another one who was very good at using shoulders or elbows on the inside.

I'm not talking about fighetrs who were known as dirty fighters here, but fighters who fouled a lot but tended to get away with it and tended not to be characterised as dirty (as, for example, Trinidad and Cotto tend to get picked up for fouling in a spectacularly obvious way)

I guess the middle-ground between known & sneaky would be someone like Joel Casamayor --- he has a rep for being flagrantly filthy, but he was expertly crafty with it.

Sugar Ray Leonard was terrible for hitting on the break.

Casamayor got called for it a lot but he frequently put his arm on the back of a guy's head and threw an uppercut with the opposite hand.

Hopkins and Jose Luis Castillo were clever at getting in a few extra blows in a clinch or sneaky low blows.
