I completely agree - but I am getting sick of the PR machine that is now in swing to feel sorry for him!!! - what about all the boxers who havnt done what Hatton has done?

Hatton was fabulous for British Boxing - bloody brilliant - but getting caught out the way he did tarnishes my memories quite a bit.

By the way - I cannot believe how the NOTW threw Hatton to the wolves last week and now seem to be on his side this week - pangs of double standards to me. And as for the Camera which caught out Hatton - are people trying to tell me that Irish lass set it all up on her own - if not who did - was it the NOTW??

I will state again Ricky Hatton was fabulous for the sport - but if people cannot see that a PR machine is in full swing to get people to fell sorry for him then f*ck me I need to give up.

Its only a week since the revelations Team Hatton need to accept there are still some boxing fans very very dissapointed in him - and as for well done Ricky for getting treatment - he had no choice after the revelations.

Of course the PR machine is in full swing if Max Clifford is involved. But it doesn't matter as long as Hatton is getting some help. That's what's most important.

It's like complaining that Robbie Williams was only on the Help For Heroes concert because of the publicity. As long as it helped the charity, that's what's important.

Whilst I wish Hatton all the best, The Priory is a huge cop out. Every fornicating celebrity caught doing something a bit naughty books in there and claims they're 'getting help', when in reality they're just ducking the press.

Liam Gallagher hasn't said many things that make sense, but he was spot on when he spoke about celebrity rehab.

Yes of course I want to see Ricky Hatton get well - and get well soon - when he is well he is one of the nicest people you can meet - but I am sorry as a boxing fan I was genuinally saddenned but also bitterly dissapointed that things got that bad it was the NOTW leading story last week - yes yes many people were aware of various rumours some which made my hair curl - but ffs to let things get that bad and tarnish boxing's already relatively bad image aint good nor should it be brushed under the carpet.

That's how the tabloids work I'm afraid, how many times have we seen it? They harp on about the government invading your privacy with their "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING" headlines yet when the NOTW and other leeches discover something about somebodies private life they plaster it all over the front of their rags under "EXCLUSIVE: MP WATCHES PORN!" and the like. All the tabloids care about is selling their product, they don't care about the truth, defamation, long-term effects of inaccurate reporting or morals.

I read Max's bio a few weeks ago, as soon a someone has him on the payroll the Tab's leave tehm alone, He is extremely powerfull.

Myself and a few others were very surprised he's now gone down the "read all about my addiction in tomorrow's News of the World" route.

He needs to sack off all those surplus leeches earning a living off his own back. Keep his original loyal team and family around him and have a media blackout.

These 'damage limitation' scripted responses to the NOTW fool nobody and his advisors seem more occupied with salvaging his image than getting the man well again.

Personally i couldnt give a sh1t if Hatton likes to booze and has a few lines of coke. That to me doesnt tarnish him as a person or detract from his career achievements.

Nobody is perfect and its got fuk all to do with me or anyone else (other than perhaps the Police) what he gets up to in his personal life.

I just hope that if he is ill with depression he makes a speedy recovery.

Out of interest I would like to know if the journalists who put the sensational headlines and commentary on this story against Hatton have ever snorted coke themselves

I do like the way Hatton is being left alone by the police because he's at the Priory, but he was let out to do a full interview with the NOTW.

I thought the interview with Clifford said Hatton wasn't there full time - just going in and out to deal with his alcohol and depression?

Your post implies I enjoy seeing boxing being brought to its knees with the sort of scandal that Ricky Hatton has got himself into - that is simply not the case. Hatton's plight and the disgusting behaviour of certain fans last night in Brimingham are the sort of things that horrify me and are driving the nails into the coffin of the sport.

Not what I meant at all. You were surprised he was working with the NOTW yet saying it was a PR drive. The latter is right and that is why he was in the NOTW. I wouldn't use 'blackmail' as you did but what I said before is how it is...

Good luck to him. I hope he focuses his career on promoting good fights, and well matched shows, rather than becoming a "fallen" celeb.

Mental health issues, i.e depression being one, are not to be laughed at, and in some ways is still very much taboo in our society. :(

I hear words like 'disgraced boxer' being bandied around which is utter rubbish, he has a drink problem which can be addressed, he has a mental health issue which can be addresses, I don't for 1 second believe he has an issue with cocaine, it's just been in the mix the last few months (or more).

He's like millions of other people who aren't disgraces. What is a disgrace is how we view these things as a society, + the journo scum, not all journos are scum but quite a number are.

He doesn't come out and say he's retired but I think that's clear enough. Ironically, he's not that old. I know this sounds daft but if he could clean up his act and get back in the gym, it could be the best thing for him. He needs, like a lot of us, routine.

I agree Ian, although it was only the top of the month when he renewed his licence. I still think there is something in the back of his mind that is preventing him from officially announcing it - and thats confusion... possibly fueled by his current illness.

It was only actually this month when he wrote an article form the MEN (I think) which sounded almost positive about a return. I think we'll have the "will he, won't he" for a while - and I don't think its any PR..... its confusion, boxing is part of his self-identity.

He is calling it a "retirement" now, which is very different to him when he announced a comeback before - where he called it a break.

I would now really want to see him comeback, both for his own self-esteem and as a PR drive. He is young enough, he doesn't need to challenge for anything big.... get him in with someone like Colin Lynes - if he wants to continue from there, then so be it. Think of the other disgraced athletes who comeback and are now somewhat cherished and never REALLY talked about with their problems... the likes of Paul Merson and Tony Adams. Whereas the likes of Martina Hingis, a model proffesional throughout her career, is still called "disgraced" tennis legend.
