Groves v Degale does it happen in Dec? or down the road

What is the general consensus? :bag: does it take place or do we have another Hitman and witter situation on our hands?

would love to see it....even if its further down the road

After such a suprisingly good Warren PPV I was even more suprised to see Warren calling out dangerous names for one of his cash cows.

I can not see Warren offering the fight without options on Groves which would be a cop out as Hayemaker would never accept. If Warren's contract is just for the fight I would start to have a new found respect. That is a BIG if.....

my mate summed this up i think, its a hollow offer i don't think its intended to be accepted, any more than the supposed offer made to Degale's team by Team Groves a year or so back.

Maybe Frank is tweeking his style a little. Developing kids without risk to 25-0 over 8 years is perhaps not as fruitful or bountiful as it once was and if he's going to take too long getting them there, there has been a pattern of them buggering off. Hatton, Calzaghe, Khan....

Maybe more competitive learning curves with a bunch of lads, one or two who drop the odd decision, might prove more productive.

You can't help thinking SKY are asking for a little more competitive action now after the souring of the relationship last time.

We've not had many really duff cards this past year or two.

I think the change to Saturday night might be making a difference also. Warren always said he couldn't get the fights he wanted on Friday - cause he couldn't get the audience to make it viable.

If this fight happens before either of them has lost I'll stand drop o'York.

I think he has to do things this way for the time being. I doubt Degale-Groves will happen so soon, but the point is he doesn't have a Hatton/Khan/Calzaghe on which he can hang an entire PPV on anymore, so if he wants to do PPV shows he will have to focus on a higher quantity of decent but less marquee names in more competitive matches for now.

None of the Magnificent 7 boxers or fights were even close to PPV level in their own right, nor would any of them generated anything like a crowd like that on their own (even Macklin fighting at home), but add them all together and it piques interest.

No way this fight happens December. I'd love to see them fight but it's for a few years down the road when one or both are world champions. more chance of Mayweather-pacquiao happening in the next year than this one.

don't think it will happen in december, groves doesn't have the time to prepare unless he doesn't fight late october and warren will defo want options. hope this fight happens in 18 months to be honest.

I'd be gobsmacked if Warren put in a genuine, acceptable offer to Groves' team.

With all due respect to Carl Dilks, Degale fighting him was one thing, but Groves is an entirely different proposition.

Ok, Hayemaker/Booth/David Haye, whoever, has lost a lot of respect and credibility for boxing Audrey Harrison, but Warren's been blowing smoke for decades with these sort of "offers" so let's treat it for what it is....publicity.

It would be an excellent occasion if the two of them squared off in December for Groves' Commonwealth title. This is the time for a blistering match to take place, don't wait for years like Haye-Enzo and get a big build up to a big disappointment. Do it now, they can always fight again in years to come and plenty of money can still be made.

In short....won't happen in 2010

lol, groves has been calling out Degale and when he gets his chance he starts pulling stipulations.. (it has to be on a hayemaker show). If he wanted it bad enough, he would be jumping at the chance. Says it all really.

groves is the 1 with the title! he should have the upper hand and being on a warren show you always risk getting stopped as soon as 3 punches are landed on your chin. plus i bet 100% warrens offer had options :OhYes: good move by hayemaker

Warren wants the fight on a Warren show.
Booth wants the fight on a Hayemaker show.

Neither is in the wrong,
Neither is in the right,
Both are making offers,
But who truly wants the fight?

Today, I feel like Evander (the poster, not Holyfield).

In fairness, for someone as mouthy as Groves to get an opportunity he has been mouthing about for ages and then start throwing stipulations around says it all. Reminiscent of Haye mouthing about the Klitschkos.

Groves needs Degale far more than vice versa. Title means nothing at all!
It's laughable how much you "bet 100%" and guarantee as if you know things/people

Some interesting views i cant see it happening, shame it would be a class tear up.

like some one pointed out the fighters on mag 7 was not ppv level on own but put together was a great show...think it showed the way forward for now loads of good match ups and i will put my hand in my pocket.

The oldest trick in boxing is to make a public fuss about wanting a match, thus grabbing the headlines, yet relying on the small print as a get-out. Both sides here, if they are genuine, should agree on a 50/50 purse split, and no options attached - the winner moves on in his career, the loser regroups accordingly. If either side is seeking options on the other, that is going to present an unsurmountable obstacle (imo). Degale's promoter has invested too much cash into his charge already - including the rumoured £1m signing bonus - to put Degale in with a risky fight right now, unless as other posters have mentioned, there is pressure from TV companies for him to do so.

I think that, in the midst of all this stuff (such as the promoter also going public on his desire to bring Valuev over to the UK, to face Chisora, on his next big PPV show), there is an element of the promoter, having had a sxxt year by his standards, talking big on live TV, on his biggest show in years, feeling like he was back on top, etc. By his standards, he has hardly had a look in this year, while rival promoters have taken a lot of the Sky TV slots. He must have got well cheesed off by it. He is slating Haye vs Harrison, calling for Hatton's promotional licence to be pulled due to the recent tabloid allegations, and now he's calling out the brightest star in Hayemaker's stable (aside from David Haye). I put it down to allegedly feeling like he's bounced back from a crap year and now its time to start "putting it about a bit", so to speak.

Its the oldest trick in the book, and the short notice makes a mockery of having any respect for the medium and long term plans of Groves' people. Ditto for Valuev, I'm sure Nikolai has his own plans, and wasn't just waiting for Chisora to put in a good performance, thus setting up Chisora vs Valuev. Valuev will have his own plans, after his long lay off, and I'm sure he doesn't think he's yet in the "opponent" category.

I hope Groves vs Degale happens but I'm equally happy to see it further down the line. Perhaps this willy-waving between allegedly and Booth is as near as we'll get for the time being ?

you should knw smigga, warren didn't want you in with magee unless he had about 4 options on him :OhYes: which is saying something about his confidence in you :DD warren isn't going to risk his golden boy without adding some sort of rematch clause, that is a guarantee :OhYes:

Same thing offered with Froch and Calzaghe.

"100k for Froch to fight Calzaghe september" message was received, Hennessy said lets talk, send the contract particulars (to check for 'options') and we can do this fight.

No response. Then I think it was a text, fax or similar that said "£100k last chance." and again Hennessy said we want this fight, send the info.

24 hours or so later Warren's column in tabloid declares "Froch turns down Calzaghe offer."

Hennessy then got a sky-backed £2m purse sorted for Calzaghe - and Warren went silent.

Haye had same deal I think, but he called their bluff and pretended 200lb limit was over for him.... Warren then bent over to make the Macca fight - and Haye gobbled him up, cashed his fat cheque and declared his weight problem was all a ploy.

I get the same feeling this story will pan out the same way - i.e. Publicly declare they want Groves, throw a low-ball offer his way, ignore a much higher counter-offer and move onwards without risking the fight, declaring Groves turned it down.

I'll be shocked if Warren thinks Degale needs Groves to hit pay dirt with his golden goose. The trend with all his previous starlets is to swerve domestic dangermen if they have slightly less media coverage than his own charge.

Macca's fight with Haye is the only one for years I can remember.

I'll give him due, he is a shrewd business man and dont give his rivals an inch, or their stable an opportunity against his own - unless hims men having something to gain.

OR maybe he is embracing a different approach. That people dont want eastern europeans & trinket titles anymore. Afterall, Clev has gone the traditional routeof British & Commonwealth, followed by European and then final eliminator.

Although the WBO is a joke outfit who sanction totall dross for the defending champions (usually Warren's fighters or Universum's).

Forget about the options for a sec., they're arguing about who's going to promote the fight.
