Earnie Shavers vs (Pre Manny Stewart) Lennox Lewis

IMHO It all boils down to can Shavers land a monster. I think he would , given enough time. Would Lewis allow him such time? Possibly. If it was a trilogy, I'd have to go for Shavers in the first fight, Lewis in the second and Lewis in the rubber.

I agree with almost everything you said. Sorry to nit-pick, but Lewis fought Mercer after he joined Manny Stewart. I thought Bruno gave Lewis all he could handle.

Very incitefull post Barry. I pretty much agree with everything you said. I was a big Lewis fan and tipped him for the title when looked clumsy against Dan Murphy and Ossie Ocasio. Everytime I watch the first McCall & Rahman fight, I ask myself the same question.... If McCall and Rahman could kstop him with one punch. What would Shavers do? That said, styles make fights. SO who knows.

Hitting Lewis flush when he's not expecting it is not easy in itself. McCall wasn't a devestating one shot puncher. This may sound crazy but that probably helped him land the bingo shot! a bit like what Snipes did to Holmes - viewed as less of a threat he had more opportunities to sneak the punch that bigger hitters like Cooney and Bonecrusher couldn't.

Any heavy handed fighter who fought Lewis would simply have to land on his chin and win, plain and simple. now if Lewis held shavers away with his jab and occasional right then he would win. i say Lewis by decision, if there was a knock out it would come from Shavers.

Pre Manny Steward Lewis wasn't the cautious, chess player sticking behind the jab. I'd expect him to jump on Shavers early.

Never thought about this fight. Lewis even pre-Steward would be cautious of the big right hand early . . I'm just not sure he wasn't clumsy enough in his footwork at this point to not eventually be caught with something big. I would favor a prime Lewis (circa 1997) to win via late TKO.

Lewis by knockout? i would have to disagree. shavers fought a lot of good competition and was never knocked out. He prob would of taken Lewis power as good as Mercer did. But Lewis still wins by decision.

Shavers was never knocked out. That's a new one.
It's patently obvious from this & a few other posts you don't bother watching fighters you comment on. Must save a lot of time. Not much face, though.

But stop acting like this forum is so dam important u have to blow your lid if someone messes up one little detail. Look at it for what it is, its a place to give an opinion. if u don't like it than that's fine, but i don't recall asking u to give me your response on the matter.

The currently most overated Hw v the currently most underated Hw, as the saying goes "If they fought ten times, Lewis wins 99 times out of a hundred)!"

Lewis is far from overrated. He beat the best in his era. beat every fighter he fought. a dominate champion period.

Shavers could not win a boxing match with Lewis under any circumastances. But Shavers ALWAYS has a punchers chance. If Rahman was a one in 10 chance then Shavers is a one in five possibly 4.

Shavers was an extremely dangerous opponent, but one in which a great fighter would usually beat. One in 4 chance against Lewis (or almost any other great heavyweight) seems about right. Fighters that Shavers himself was a cut above probably had a 1 in four chance of beating Shavers.
As for Leiws, I always thought he was a better fighter early in his career. With Steward, he did have some good performances. However, he got knocked out by Rahman, was lucky to get a decision against Mercer and an over the hill holyfield, and looked terrible against Klitschko.
