Ricky Hatton - Lifestyle changes

The thing that endeared Ricky to his many fans was his ' boy next door ' image . He liked to go for a pint with his mates , he still lived near where he was brought up , and appeared to have time to talk to anyone .Also remember the young lad he used to bring into the ring with .
Everybody will have advice for him - and for what its worth I'll add my tuppence worth .
He cannot afford to return to the same environment he left . I've no doubt that the counselling he's receiving will work in the short term ,but it can't last for ever . I've no doubt his mother and father , along with brother and his girlfriend ,will have tried to help him , but its clear he simply hasn't listened . That won't change if he goes back to where he was . He's got to leave the Manchester area behind and move on to somewhere he's less well known . He can still be a promoter from afar . He can still help his brother when its suitable , but he's got to move . He's lucky , because he can afford to do it - others can't !!
He's too young to simply lounge around . he needs to find something else which would interest him . Some other sort of business . Dave 'Boy ' Green is an example . I for one don't want Ricky to end up like Paul Gascoigne , but that's where he's heading .
If he goes back to his old haunts , and goes round with his old 'friends' , trust me , he's doomed. He'll never be out the papers for all the wrong reasons .
Come on Ricky , get back on your feet son !!

I think it will be very hard for him to change. He's built a large part of his identity around being 'down to earth' & 'one of the lads'. I think he probably likes the attention this gets him too. I hope he does change but can't see it happening any time soon.

he likes shoving coke up his nose, when he realises what it's doing to him he'll probably try to knock it on the head. This "news" paper exposee and Priory talk doesn't mean sh*t. I think it'll run a natural course....not one the "news" paper or anybody else imposes. He'll be under a microscope now for years, I don't envy him for that. Everybody in life has there problems, some big, some not so big. He's no different. It's his life, let him sort it out. It's already boring to read about on a Boxing forum.

I remember reading about Noel Gallagher once and that he had to leave Manchester when Oasis made it because 'local gangsters' kept threatening him with beatings if he didn't contribute to their extortion rackets - Noel said leaving Manchester for Wood Green in London was the best thing he ever did and does not miss Manchester one iota.

Ricky has got to leave Manchester. He could afford to move next door to Noel Gallagher in Wood Green surely? :TU:

The coke thing has been blown out of all proportion. There are many people of Ricky Hatton`s age who do coke on a wekeend whilst out on the piss. It is something that the majority of people grow out off or have under an element of control.

Ricky is probably happiest being one of the lads and sees himself getting old in the working men`s pubs around Manchester, being a local celebrity with plenty of cash. Nothing wrong with that. It`s a life that he most likely enjoys. Watching boxing, promoting fighters, drinking with mates. Nothing wrong with drinking with your mates and watching sport. The coke thing will blow over in time.

He is struggling with his demons in respect of retiring from a high profile sport and it is natural that depression may set in. Because he is a celebrity, people are all over him like a rash. All this priory bullshit is a waste of time, it fuels the attention on him. "Normal" people don`t go into the Priory, so why should Ricky Hatton?

Let the guy get on with his life and stop judjing him by standards which he will never live up to.

Take the point about moving out of the area, that's one of the first things people trying to battle drug problems are advised to do — stay away from the people/places connected with the problem, make life easy on yourself. But Hatton has only moved a stone's throw from his parental home in his life, he's very much a 'home boy', so I imagine he won't follow that advice and will try to do it the hard way. Whatever, I hope he comes through — of all the things that have been said or written about Ricky Hatton, I've never heard him called a nasty sod who bothers the public or smacks his women around so I wish him well.
