Honeyghan's memories of Mugabi is funny as. Blimey, he must have been terrible to spar against.Jeff Thomas wrote:Can I just say that this months BM is a class read. Yep.... Mugabi is one of those guys who probably doesn't get the respect he deserves anymore. Those two blast outs at the hands of top fighters in McLellon and Norris really bring his credability down- shame really.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Honeyghan's memories of Mugabi is funny as. Shouldn't do. The Beast was the real deal, until Hagler ruined him. I mean, you couldn't get a tougher title challenge than Marvin Hagler, and he moved up a division to take him on.Jeff Thomas wrote: Yep.... They might bring his crdibility down amongst the youngsters who werent around at the time, but when he fought Norris he was sucking lemons and eating grapes for three week, (yes three weeks) just to make 154, and his lifestyle was horrific. 18 months later he fights McClellan after zero preparation, I think I saw him fight at Latchmere Leisure Centre in Battersea the fight before?. Do you know how much he got paid to fight McClellan? £14,000.Jeff Thomas wrote:Yep.... Mugabi is one of those guys who probably doesn't get the respect he deserves anymore. You noticed the legs shaking too. I admit i looked like i was on roller skates!MightyWarrior wrote:Shouldn't do. The Beast was the real deal, until Hagler ruined him. Norris caught him with a great left hook, but I think his legs were gone even then ( rumours of very bad syphilis ).
And he looked like he was walking on his heels, on the way to the ring to get sacrificed to McClellan.
You know what, MW, I actually think this specific issue will have a lot of fans rooting for Audley. There's definitely injustice in the air - it just seems bang out of order, as plastic Cockneys would say.MightyWarrior wrote:the Lillis interview with Audley was excellent. It's interesting, as I remember Haye 10 years ago, wide eyed and hanging onto Audley's coat tails....and now, like Audley asks "where did all that anger suddenly come from?"
Yep that's exactly what I felt after reading that Ian, a bit sorry for Audley in this instance. To have all his previous good will thrown back in his face, then to get knocked out as well, seems too much for any man.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:You know what, MW, I actually think this specific issue will have a lot of fans rooting for Audley. Certainly wasn't 'racist' reggae, speech marks or not. For want of a better term, maybe it was 'hairist'? 'Physical typist' perhaps? But 'racist', definitely not. Is James DeGale 'racist' for referring to George Groves as an 'ugly ginger kid'? Don't think so. Anyway, no harm was intended and none was felt — Alvarez has cooperated with a BM interview since then and he's quite happy, he has broad shoulders (as you imply, he's probably had more than a little pee-taking in Mexico due to his appearance). But he's quite welcome to call me a fat half-Welshman if he likes, I try not to take life too seriouslyreggaereggae wrote:I don't personally take any offense; but I find it odd that Glyn makes yet again a 'racist' remark against Alvarez. Why is it that white people, and especially gingers are fair game but not other people?
Not that bothered really bit I find it odd.
I really hope Alvarez does well; he must have suffered for beingtaht pale and being a red head in MExico

You make a good point reggae, a strange case of multiple standards in this area, for sure. And I would never even risk saying hello to Eamonn Magee's face, just in case he'd got out of the wrong side of the bed that day! But most importantly, I wonder where Ginger Tshabalala fits into all this?reggaereggae wrote:Glyn Leach wrote:Certainly wasn't 'racist' reggae, speech marks or not. I really hope Alvarez does well; he must have suffered for beingtaht pale and being a red head in MExicoYes I don't think it's useful the way people are termed 'racist' at every turn. However, let's be clear - it's only white people that are ginger; and the ginger gene also comes with very pale skin. It's more than a hair colour; it's virtually an ethnicity.
I mean, imagine if Groves called Degale a Fuzzy-wuzzy or took the piss out of Afro hair? THis only refers to hair; but he would get slated.
As to Degale's comment, I find it distasteful that he makes that remark publicly on live TV. It's puerile and hateful - red heads are slated, bullied and taken the piss out of mercilessly throughout their lives, just for their complexion and hair. I'm sure a lot of redheads really resent the stick they get / got. I have heard a theory that redheaded men grow up mentally very tough because of the stick they get. All the gingers in MMA seem to be nutters....![]()
Anyway I don't mean to get on any high-horse, and it was by no means a personal attack on you - I know you have a good sense of humour - but I was more referring to the hypocrisy I feel that it's not OK to make remarks of a physical nature about non-white peoples, but whites are just open season (esp Gingers!)
PS I am not ginger myself!
PPS if 'ginger' is not an insult, I'd like to see someone say that to Eamon Magee's face!
PPPS My commiserations for being half-welsh
